Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eal of the five-year-old electric sedan.<\/p>\n<p>One focus of the redesign, codenamed \u201cHighland,\u201d is to reduce the number of components and complexity in the interior of the Model 3 while focusing on features that\u00a0Tesla\u00a0buyers value, including the display, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the revamp has not been announced.<\/p>\n<p>The previously unreported redesign comes as the electric sedan faces increased competition from models from the likes of China\u2019s BYD, Hyundai\u00a0and coming releases from other major automakers.<\/p>\n<p>The revamp of the battery-powered sedan, which could also include some changes to the Model 3\u2019s exterior and powertrain performance, will go into production at\u00a0Tesla\u2019s factory in Shanghai and the company\u2019s Fremont, Calif., plant, two of the people said.\u00a0Tesla\u2019s Shanghai Gigafactory will put the redesigned Model 3 into production in the third quarter of 2023, they said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/tesla-model3-revamp.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Tesla Model 3 \" class=\"wp-image-24812211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/tesla-model3-revamp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/tesla-model3-revamp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/tesla-model3-revamp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The Tesla Model 3 debuted in March 2016.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was not clear when production would start at the Fremont plant or how large a cost savings\u00a0Tesla\u00a0would achieve from the redesign as it works with suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>The effort spotlights an approach to vehicle development pioneered by\u00a0Tesla\u00a0and now being copied by other automakers,\u00a0including Toyota Motor, that removes complexity \u2013 and cost \u2013 in production.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>It is also an example of a key project at\u00a0Tesla\u00a0that has rolled ahead even as Chief Executive Musk has focused on his troubled acquisition of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> in recent months, an area of concern for\u00a0Tesla\u00a0investors.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u00a0did not respond to a written request for comment from Reuters.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Change_you_can_see\"><\/span>Change you can see<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The redesign for the Model 3 builds on the revamp of the Model S \u2014\u00a0Tesla\u2019s premium EV sedan \u2014 that was released last year. That redesign added an airplane-style yoke in place of a traditional steering wheel and removed buttons and traditional air vents as part of a minimalist interior where the centerpiece is a 17-inch electronic display.<\/p>\n<p>The Model 3,\u00a0Tesla\u2019s cheapest EV starting at just under $47,000 in the United States, had been the automaker\u2019s best-seller but is being overtaken by the Model Y crossover. It has also designed a structural battery pack that does away with more expensive modules.<\/p>\n<p>Musk has said\u00a0Tesla\u00a0is looking to drive costs down through simplification and working on a small-car platform that would be half the cost of the Model 3.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver and over, we found parts that are not needed. They were put in there just in case or by mistake. We eliminated so many parts from a car that did nothing,\u201d Musk said in an interview at a Baron Funds conference earlier in the month.<\/p>\n<p>The approach is part of what has made\u00a0Tesla\u00a0the most profitable electric vehicle maker while many rivals are still running at a loss. In the third quarter,\u00a0Tesla\u00a0made a profit of just over $9,500 for every car sold, compared to roughly $1,300 for Toyota, according to disclosures by both companies.<\/p>\n<p>The revamp of the Model 3 comes at a time when sales in China, its second-largest market after the United States, are under pressure. Sales for the Model 3 in China fell 9% in the first ten months from a year earlier, while BYD\u2019s Qin and Han electric sedans outsold the Model 3, according to China Passenger Car Association.<\/p>\n<p>To boost sales,\u00a0Tesla\u00a0cut prices for Model 3 and Model Y in China by as much as 9% in October and offered an additional rebate for buyers who took immediate delivery.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Fiorani, who tracks\u00a0Tesla\u00a0and industry-wide production at Auto Forecast Solutions, said the upcoming changes to the Model 3, which he understood were coming, showed the power of\u00a0Tesla\u2019s approach in taking out complexity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are always looking for ways to make EVs profitable, and more profitable,\u201d he said.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
