He lamented that \u201cWashington has been abusing \u2018loudspeaker diplomacy\u2019 instead of a quiet one, which didn\u2019t help us to do business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Griner began serving a nine-year sentence for drug possession at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/brittney-griner-entertainment-sports-moscow-treatment-of-prisoners-b45b6df32280381a9cb3911a87bc7294\" data-ylk=\"slk:a Russian penal colony\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">a Russian penal colony<\/a> in Mordovia, about 350 kilometers (210 miles) east of Moscow, after a Russian court had rejected her appeal of her August conviction.<\/p>\n<p>The all-star center with the WNBA\u2019s Phoenix Mercury and two-time Olympic gold medal winner was detained in February when customs agents said they found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage at Moscow\u2019s Sheremetyevo Airport.<\/p>\n<p>At her trial, Griner admitted to having the canisters in her luggage but testified she packed them inadvertently in her haste to make her flight and had no criminal intent. Her defense team presented written statements saying she had been prescribed cannabis to treat chronic pain.<\/p>\n<p>Whelan is serving a 16-year sentence in Russia after being convicted on espionage charges that he denied.<\/p>\n<p>His brother David said Tuesday that officials at the prison colony where Whelan is held said he was moved to the prison hospital on November 17. David Whelan questioned the reason for the transfer, saying his brother had not complained of any health conditions that required hospitalization and appeared healthy and well to the U.S. Embassy staff who visited him.<\/p>\n<p>He also wondered why Whelan wan&#8217;t allowed to make phone calls from the hospital and expressed concern he either may have an emergency medical issue that was not being disclosed or in fact had been placed in solitary confinement by prison authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press and other <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> organizations have reported that Washington has offered to exchange Griner and Whelan for Viktor Bout, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/brittney-griner-entertainment-sports-united-states-moscow-ef3af7e110f2600f8f304a046d320e64\" data-ylk=\"slk:a Russian arms dealer\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">a Russian arms dealer<\/a> who is serving a 25-year sentence in the U.S. and once earned the nickname the \u201cmerchant of death.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
