I just get real insecure, I don\u2019t like to really, like, expose myself like that,\u201d DDG says just after the 21-minute mark. \u201cI like to stay low-key and just be who I am. And a lot of people be like, \u2018Damn, why don\u2019t you just talk in your real voice or rap in your real voice?\u2019\u00a0I just feel like it\u2019s too mu\u2019fuckin deep, so I\u00a0be trying to like, talk regular.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that he feels the voice he\u2019s been using is more relatable to fans, and that the deeper, real voice would garner more jokes than anything.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c300\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just easier for me to grow as a musical artist, creator and shit,\u201d he added. \u201cI just feel like if I use my deep voice, a lot of y\u2019all wouldn\u2019t take me seriously, and it\u2019d be like, funny. I see a lot of people laughing about it and shit, and that\u2019s just like, that\u2019s why I don\u2019t like really using it like that. Back in September, DDG came under fire for comments he made about the lasting impact of Dr. Martin Luther King\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on Bootleg Kev\u2019s podcast and discussing the backlash his girlfriend Halle Bailey received following for her upcoming role as Ariel in <em>The Little Mermaid<\/em>, he [allegedly] joked that he thought MLK had ended racism.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit\u201c400\u201d\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know people was this racist,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t know this was a thing. I thought this shit was gone already. I thought Martin Luther King canceled that shit out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After people started calling him ignorant and uneducated upon the clip going viral, DDG took the opportunity to clarify his statement in a comment on <em>The Shade Room<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was valedictorian in high school,\u201d he wrote, \u201cobviously mlk ain\u2019t stop racism.. it\u2019s called exaggeration lol see this what\u2019s wrong with our people these days.
