Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell off the House Intelligence Committee and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) for sharing an animated video showing him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.) was removed\u00a0months earlier\u00a0for promoting the execution of leading Democrats before she was elected to office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy blamed Democrats for \u201cthis new standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cNever in the history [of Congress] have you had the majority tell the minority who can be on committee,\u201d McCarthy said at the start of 2022. \u201cThis is a new level of what the Democrats have done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Schiff, McCarthy has zeroed in on his role in the investigation into Trump\u2019s ties to Russia, accusing him of lying to the public about the former president\u2019s ties to Moscow and Hunter Biden\u2019s work in Ukraine. He\u2019s bashed Swalwell for his ties to a Chinese spy with whom he cut off contact after being warned of her true identity by the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Schiff said his targeting is nothing more than an effort by McCarthy to win support for his Speakership bid.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>McCarthy was elected Speaker-designate in a closed-door GOP conference vote, but lost 31 votes. He will need to win over many of them to be elected Speaker on the House floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMcCarthy\u2019s problem is not with what I have said about Russia. McCarthy\u2019s problem is, he can\u2019t get to 218 without Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar and Matt Gaetz,\u201d Schiff said Sunday during an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so he will do whatever they ask. And, right now, they\u2019re asking for me to be removed from our committees. And he\u2019s willing to do it. He\u2019s willing to do anything they ask.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The Mayorkas fight reflects the awkward line that McCarthy is trying to walk.<\/p>\n<p>He courted conservative votes last week by vowing an investigation of Mayorkas but did not fully embrace an impeachment vote, allowing himself wiggle room to change his mind next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate. Every order, every action and every failure will determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiry,\u201d McCarthy said at a press conference in El Paso, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>In an appearance on ABC\u2019s \u201cThis Week,\u201d Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) expressed doubt the GOP would be able to impeach Mayorkas swiftly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve got to build a case. You need the facts, evidence before you indict. Has he been derelict in his responsibilities? I think so,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans, however, want to go full steam ahead, suggesting anything short of Mayorkas\u2019s removal would put the country\u2019s security at risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe needs to go,\u201d Rep. Ronnie Jackson (R-Texas)\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6316219009112\">told Fox News on Sunday<\/a>. \u201cWe need to make an example of Mayorkas. And he will be just the start of what we do in this new Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans have dismissed an impeachment vote as a stunt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would basically be putting form over substance to go through a big performance on impeachment that\u2019s never going anywhere,\u201d former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, a George W. Bush appointee, said over the weekend, \u201crather than actually working with the administration to solve the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>McCarthy also faces divisions on delaying the defense bill, as some Republicans want to move forward and also pull back from threats to limit support for Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy says he wants to pump the breaks on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and another round of funding to aid Ukraine in its battle against Russia, saying he wouldn\u2019t back a \u201cblank check.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve watched what the Democrats have done on many of these things, especially the NDAA \u2014 the wokeism that they want to bring in there,\u201d McCarthy told reporters shortly after the midterms. \u201cI actually believe the NDAA should hold up until the 1st of this year \u2014 and let\u2019s get it right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy is far from the only Republican with complaints about the NDAA. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) put out a report slamming the \u201cWoke Warfighters\u201d of the Pentagon. But McCarthy is also facing pressure from the right.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s hold the bill hostage. Let\u2019s leverage what we have,\u201d Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who opposes McCarthy\u2019s Speakership bid, recently said on a podcast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats and the Biden administration argue a delay will hurt the military.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you kick it off four, five, six months, you are really damaging the United States military. So I hope Kevin McCarthy understands that,\u201d House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (D-Wash.) said. \u201cYou are damaging the United States military every day past Oct. 1 that you don\u2019t get it done, and certainly more so every day past\u201d Jan. 1.<\/p>\n<p>On Ukraine, some Republicans have bristled at the idea of holding back any funding as the country continues to make advances against Russia.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to make certain they get what they need,\u201d House Intelligence Committee ranking member Mike Turner (R-Ohio) said in an appearance alongside McCaul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact is, we are going to provide more oversight, transparency and accountability. We\u2019re not going to write a blank check,\u201d McCaul added. \u201cDoes that diminish our will to help the Ukraine people fight?
