against women: Meta complaint&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>A female truckers association accused Meta of displaying <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> ads that \u201croutinely discriminate\u201d against women, according to a complaint filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The organization, \u201cReal Women in Trucking,\u201d alleged that women are far less likely to see Facebook ads for blue-collar jobs or jobs that historically exclude women, the complaint said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen receive a disproportionate share of ads for lower-paid jobs in social services, food services, education, and health care, especially administrative positions that are historically considered women\u2019s jobs,\u201d the association said in its complaint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacebook\u2019s algorithm regularly acts like recruiters in the 1960s who identified jobs as \u2018Male\u2019 or \u2018Female\u2019 based on gender stereotypes or indicated their preferences to hire younger workers,\u201d the complaint added.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also alleged that Meta is far less likely to show older people in any kind of job ads.<\/p>\n<p>Civil rights law prohibits targeted ads based on gender or age.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"535\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/lawsuit-facebook-ads-02-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\u201cReal Women in Trucking\u201d filed a complaint against Meta on Thursday.\" class=\"wp-image-24862668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/lawsuit-facebook-ads-02-1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/lawsuit-facebook-ads-02-1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/lawsuit-facebook-ads-02-1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>\u201cReal Women in Trucking\u201d filed a complaint against Meta on Thursday.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Real Women in Trucking<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Meta responded to the allegations in a written statement saying, \u201cAddressing fairness in ads is an industry-wide challenge and we\u2019ve been collaborating with civil rights groups, academics and regulators to advance fairness in our ads system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company added that it is \u201cactively building <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> designed to make additional progress in this area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not Meta\u2019s first run-in with advertisement discrimination allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The tech giant settled a Justice Department lawsuit in June that accused Meta of deploying racially targeted housing ads.<\/p>\n<p>Meta also paid out $5 million across five different lawsuits in 2019 that centered around discriminatory ad placement.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
