In May, the company\u00a0demonstrated a version of the headset to its board of directors. And now we\u2019re hearing Apple has a new name for the software as it inches closer to a release date.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-12-01\/apple-mixed-reality-headset-rivaling-meta-set-to-run-xros-operating-system?sref=10lNAhZ9\" data-ylk=\"elm:affiliate_link;itc:0\" data-rapid_p=\"4\" data-v9y=\"1\"><em>Bloomberg\u2019s<\/em><\/a>\u00a0Mark Gurman, the internal name of \u201crealityOS\u201d we reported on in August is changing internally to \u201cxrOS,\u201d which stands for extended reality. With a heavy mix of virtual and augmented reality experiences, not to mention virtual versions of all of Apple\u2019s most popular apps, \u201cextended reality\u201d makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Gurman reports that\u00a0a shell corporation named Deep Dive LLC has filed a trademark for the brand \u201cxrOS,\u201d suggesting a release date is on the horizon as Apple readies its Metaverse competitor.<\/p>\n<p>While we still don\u2019t much much about Apple\u2019s VR headset or what it\u2019ll be called, previous reports suggest a high-end device that could cost anywhere from $2,000 to upwards of $3,000. And while that sounds expensive, the Meta Quest Pro is available at an eye-watering $1,500, so nothing would surprise me.<\/p>\n<p>So, does this mean Apple is preparing to release its first AV\/VR headset? We\u2019re not sure.
