\n House Democrats were poised Saturday to pass a bill meant to handcuff Postmaster General<\/a> Louis DeJoy ahead of November\u2019s election \u2014 despite his Senate testimony that he has made no changes to its operations.<\/p>\n

Both parties railed at one another for two hours of acrimonious debate in a rare weekend session called by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi \u2014 as President Trump weighed in via Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is all another HOAX by the Democrats to give 25 Billion unneeded dollars for political purposes, without talking about the Universal Mail-In Ballot Scam,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n

The bill, which is unlikely to get a vote in the Senate, would order DeJoy not to close post offices, remove sorting machines or restrict overtime for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

It would also pump $25 billion into an agency that, DeJoy says, is already fully funded and has $12 billion on hand.<\/p>\n

The bill\u2019s sponsor, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), opened the debate with a claim that delivery delays last month were \u201cfar worse than previously acknowledged.\u201d<\/p>\n

Democrats in recent days \u2014 including former President Barack Obama \u2014 have accused the GOP of trying to \u201ckneecap\u201d the USPS to suppress mail-in voting.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you hear that? That\u2019s our democracy crumbling,\u201d an angry Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) said. \u201cThis is fascism.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Republicans dismissed the bill as piece of political posturing, fueled by a left-wing media-driven conspiracy theory.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe post office faces many long-term problems,\u201d said Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC). \u201cBut no short-term crisis.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
