\n It\u2019s the broom squad to the rescue.<\/p>\n

With the Upper West Side besieged by quality of life complaints, locals are fighting back. Staffers at three UWS restaurants are being dispatched\u00a0 to literally sweep the streets.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s gotten bad the past month. Sometimes it looks like a garbage dump,\u201d said 36-year-old John Tsiamtsiouris, co-owner of City Diner, Metro Diner and Manhattan Diner, of the neighborhood. So for the past week, he and his employees met each morning to pick up litter on Broadway from 90th to 100th streets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re doing something to try to make it better,\u201d said Tsiamtsiouris, who lives on 96th street and whose family has owned diners in the neighborhood for three decades.\u00a0 \u201cMaybe others will jump in and help reclaim our neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been more trash on the street than before and it contributes to the general<\/a> sense of disorder,\u201d said longtime UWS resident Dashiell Feiler, 30.\u00a0 \u201cI felt a sense of community when I saw the crew out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diner employee Nicole Psomas is proud to be part of the broom brigade: \u201cThe city isn\u2019t taking care of what they need to, so we\u2019re stepping up. It\u2019s clean now and people are excited about it. Upper West Siders take pride in their streets. It\u2019s their home.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
