Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman and ranking member Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I), and Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), respectively \u2014 have \u201call been working towards getting it done and we\u2019re going to do it next week.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rogers separately told The Hill that a draft of the negotiated bill should be brought to the floor by the House by Tuesday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asked Thursday about some of his GOP colleagues\u2019 attempts to push the bill to next year, Rogers replied: \u201cThat\u2019s not gonna h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The NDAA, a measure seen as a must-pass for Congress every year, lays down a wide array of spending priorities and policy for the Defense Department. The mammoth\u00a0legislation includes everything from the military\u2019s annual pay raise to the funding of tanks, planes and ships to new programs and personnel policies, and has passed every year for six decades.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The House and Senate both passed its versions of the legislation earlier this year, and lawmakers from both chambers have since been reconciling the two different documents,\u00a0this week striking a deal to set the budget top line of the fiscal 2023 NDAA at $847 billion. The figure jumps to $858 billion when including nuclear-related programs that fall under the Energy Department.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bill is now in the hands of party leaders, with House Majority Leader\u00a0Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), earlier this week telling reporters he was \u201coptimistic\u201d the NDAA would be passed before Christmas. He added, however, there are issues in the bill that are \u201cnot necessarily national security related,\u201d that may hold up the process.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>On Friday Hoyer said there were still some \u201coutstanding issues\u201d in the legislation which prevented it from being filed as of this week, Politico reported.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those issues may very well be tied to deciding\u00a0which unrelated bills could be tacked onto\u00a0the legislation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also been several, last-minute Republican efforts to stall, including a\u00a0group of 20 GOP senators who this\u00a0week demanded a full chamber vote\u00a0on their proposal to end the Pentagon\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The\u00a0senators on Wednesday threatened to withhold their votes\u00a0to advance the NDAA if the chamber doesn\u2019t vote on whether to end the shot order for service members, reinstate troops kicked out of the military for refusing the vaccine and awarding back pay to those dismissed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear whether lawmakers opposing the mandate will have enough members to effectively block the NDAA in the Senate, as no senior GOP leaders in the chamber have signed onto the idea as of Friday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the House, meanwhile,\u00a0House Minority Leader\u00a0Kevin McCarthy\u00a0(R-Calif.), in late November urged his colleagues to delay the NDAA until next year when the GOP controls the House. The shift would give Republicans more leverage to address what they say is a \u201cwoke\u201d culture within the Pentagon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve watched what the Democrats have done\u00a0on many of these things,\u00a0especially in the NDAA \u2014 the \u2018wokeism\u2019 that they want to bring in there,\u201d McCarthy said at Nov. 22 press conference. \u201cI actually believe the NDAA should\u00a0hold up\u00a0until the first of the year, and let\u2019s get it right.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy didn\u2019t\u00a0specify which provisions in the bill he considers to be at issue, though\u00a0Republicans on several occasions have promised to banish military policies decried as \u201cwoke\u201d once their majority in Congress is regained.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The areas under fire include diversity, equity and inclusion programs\u00a0in the military services and recent policy changes to allow different uniforms to accommodate pregnant service members or allow more hair style options for female troops and those of color, among other changes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also attacked are initiatives inaccurately labeled as pushing \u201ccritical race theory\u201d and efforts to root out extremists in the ranks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have since accused McCarthy of stirring the pot only as a stunt meant to win him support for the Speaker\u2019s gavel.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>McCarthy hopes to win the House speakership in the upcoming Jan. 3 vote on the position and\u00a0needs all but three or four members of his conference to cast their ballot for him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>smanship happening right now that\u2019s all depending on the race,\u201d House Armed Services Committee member Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), told The Hill.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the Republicans should really stop playing games as it\u2019s going to potentially affect the pay raises for a lot of our members of the armed services,\u201d Gallego said, adding that he believes it\u2019s \u201ca pretty bipartisan NDAA that came out\u201d of negotiations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s just finish this off,\u201d he added.\u00a0\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
