But, a revolutionary new treatment could turn the tide in the fight against the disease. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TheProjectTV?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheProjectTV<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IVuMloeUN5\">pic.twitter.com\/IVuMloeUN5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Project (@theprojecttv) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theprojecttv\/status\/1599316365369901058?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 4, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He said he knew all too well about the struggles\u00a0the disease brings, as it has touched his own family. Steve died in September of 2004 after being pierced through the chest by a sting ray.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\"><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>pix via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBut I guess it just reminds you you\u2019ve got to spend every second with the people you love and really surround yourself with love and light and hopefully this is light at the end of the tunnel for a safe way for people to stop this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Irwin also talked about how he\u2019s proud to be continuing his dad\u2019s legacy, including by performing with the Wiggles recently at a gala dinner for Steve Irwin Day, hosted by Rove.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Wiggles are just legendary, my dad actually did a really fun collaboration project with them at Australia Zoo way back in the day 20 years ago,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\u201cSo we\u2019ve worked with them for a long time so the fact all of the original Wiggles came back to support our charity Wildlife Warriors means the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDad set this up as a way to support wildlife conservation here in Australia and on the global stage and a night like that just makes us realise his legacy is alive and thriving and it\u2019s the honour of a lifetime to keep that going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Irwin also revealed the most dangerous animal he deals with isn\u2019t what you\u2019d expect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the thing people don\u2019t understand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone goes \u2018it must be so crazy to work with venomous snakes and crocodiles, tigers and all this\u2019, but mosquitoes are responsible for the demise of 700,000 plus people worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is something we really need to look at. From my environmental background you can\u2019t just wipe out one particular animal entirely, that always has its ramifications, but it\u2019s definitely something we need to look into.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people suffering. Crocodiles are easy, mosquitoes, those things, mate.
