Before, people wouldn\u2019t even tell their sister they got botox. Now, people have my assistant video them while I have the needle in their face.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c#FillerNation\u201d covers the ties between the cosmetic beauty industry and social media, as more and more influencers have been posting about their fillers or botox procedures. But, it\u2019s a slippery slope if you\u2019re comparing your worst selfie to an airbrushed highly augmented Kardashian picture,\u201d she said. \u201cThat can induce a lot of incorrect self-reflection, where people are insecure about how they look, where, maybe before, they didn\u2019t mind their nose and lips.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Engelman, who\u2019s had <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.drdendyengelman.com\/\">her Manhattan practice<\/a> since 2009, said she\u2019s noticed a shift in how the public talks about such procedures.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they want to put that on their social media [when they\u2019re in my office], that doesn\u2019t bother me. It happens so often that it\u2019s not strange,\u201d she said. \u201cI remember probably 10 years ago, a patient from Brazil talked about how they like to video their procedures and show their friends. I thought that was insane, because no one here at that point even admitted they had cosmetic procedures done. Engleman said that being informed is key, and she sometimes says \u201cno\u201d to people who come to her seeking cosmetic procedures if she doesn\u2019t feel that it\u2019s appropriate for them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t believe that people don\u2019t vet their injectors. These are neuro toxins that can cause real damage,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is using chemical warfare. You want to make sure you know who is injecting you and what they\u2019re injecting. It\u2019s crazy how many people are like, \u2018I don\u2019t know, it was a syringe, it had pink packaging,\u2019 and they don\u2019t even know the name [of what they got]. You want to make sure you\u2019re going to someone you know has been trained and who you trust. If you have too many artists on your face, you\u2019ll end up looking like a Picasso.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy and large, I\u2019d say [influencers] have been good. They\u2019ve raised awareness about procedures that are available,\u201d she said. \u201cI do tell my clients to take advice from influencers with a grain of salt. They\u2019re not the holy grail of information.
