Admits To Snitching On Dead Cousin To Avoid Jail Time\" class=\"large\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"news-caption\"><span>Mike Lavin\/HipHopDX<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"body-copy js-entry-text \" itemprop=\"articleBody\">T.I. has admitted to once snitching on his dead cousin to avoid jail time.<\/p>\n<p>In a resurfaced clip from an August 2020 episode of his <em>expediTIously<\/em> podcast, the Atlanta r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er recalled pinning a gun case on his late relative, Toot, in the early 2000s, before his music career took off.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit200\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As T.I. explained, he and Toot were running a hustle in their native Atlanta involving stolen upscale clothes when they were pulled over by cops, who discovered a gun in Tip\u2019s possession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe at Lennox Mall parking lot, we unload the truck [of stolen clothes], I\u2019m talking to the man while I\u2019m making the play,\u201d he remembered. \u201cThis n-gga looking at everything like, \u2018Man, y\u2019all got, y\u2019all got?!\u2019 \u2018Muthafucka, we done said what you want! Get this shit and go!\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit300\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAnd right then, mall security [pull up] \u2026 We get in the car and we pull off, and then of course, they followed behind us and called the real police. So before we actually get on the expressway, the real police pull us over. I have a gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toot \u2014 who introduced T.I. to DJ Toomp, the producer behind hits like \u201cWhat You Know,\u201d \u201c24\u2019s\u201d and \u201cU Don\u2019t Know Me\u201d \u2014 was murdered during the court case. At the urging of his lawyer \u2014 and with Toot\u2019s posthumous blessing \u2014 Tip avoided incarceration by claiming the gun belonged to his cousin.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit400\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe caught those gun cases, Toot died. My lawyer said, \u2018Well, you know, I could make everything go away if it was Toot\u2019s, it was Tremel\u2019s,&#8217;\u201d he said. \u201cAfter he had passed, I had a talk with him. Toot said, \u2018I\u2019ll take all the charges you got! If you can walk away free and put it on me, goddamn right! \u2018Cause I\u2019ll be damned if they gon\u2019 come and muthafucking extradite me from here!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When gun rights activist Nicki Davis Jr., who appeared as a guest on the podcast, asked if that\u2019s where the allegations of T.I. being a \u201csnitch\u201d stem from, he replied: \u201cHell nah. Don\u2019t nobody know about that, I just volunteered this information. That\u2019s the <em>only<\/em> time I done ever said or gave information, because that\u2019s my big cousin. In an interview with <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mtv.com\/news\/999r5j\/ti-explains-the-serious-side-of-rubber-band-man\">MTV<\/a><\/em> at the song\u2019s video shoot, the Hustle Gang honcho reflected on the advice he received from his late cousin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe was just talking. It was around Christmastime of 2002,\u201d he said. \u201cWe was kicking it, he was telling me how I need to slow down. I was real hot-headed. I was just frustrated. I was really the mad rapper. I felt like, \u2018I\u2019m better than a lot of n-ggas and I ain\u2019t where I need to be.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was like, \u2018Dig this, though \u2014 look what you do got. You got a following can\u2019t nobody else match. Can\u2019t nobody who\u2019s at the level you at in your career, selling the amount of records you selling, go shut a mall down. It\u2019s a reason for that. You got strength. Just be thankful for what you do have.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Toot helped him avoid jail time in that particular case, T.I. would later spend time behind bars as legal troubles continued to plague him. Most notably, the <em>King<\/em> rapper spent seven months in federal prison in 2009 stemming from a weapons arrest two years prior, to which he struck a plea deal.<\/p>\n<p>Less than a year later, T.I. wound up back behind bars after being arrested on drug charges, which violated the terms of his probation.
