\n A Missouri cop could lose his job over \u201creckless and inapp<\/a>ropriate\u201d Facebook posts about the police-involved death of George Floyd, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

The suspended officer in Hillsdale, a suburb of St. Louis, is facing termination after several people contacted St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell and sent him images of the offending posts, KSDK reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re speaking, you\u2019re breathin,\u201d the officer wrote in the since-deleted post, according to the station.<\/p>\n

The comment was quickly shot down by another user who told the unidentified cop to stop spewing his hate, the station reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou need to go to sleep,\u201d one reply read. \u201cNight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I can\u2019t breathe,\u201d the officer reportedly responded.<\/p>\n

\u201cSoooo not funny,\u201d another reply read. \u201cLet me handcuff you and put my knee in back of your neck for HALF that time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The officer then posted a gif of a black actor crying into a pillow, KSDK reports.<\/p>\n

Bell declined to identify to the officer, but said he told Hillsdale Police Chief John Bernsen that his office would no longer take cases from him.<\/p>\n

Bell also plans to review the officer\u2019s prior cases to determine if they could still be prosecuted without him as a witness, he told the station.<\/p>\n

The officer had already been suspended when Bell\u2019s office contacted police, the prosecutor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all saw what happened with Mr. Floyd and how he was killed and it was caught on camera,\u201d Bell said. \u201cAnd this is not the time for reckless and inappropriate comments.\u201d<\/p>\n

A message seeking comment from Hillsdale police was not immediately returned early Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Floyd, 46, died on May 25 in Minneapolis after being pinned beneath Officer Derek Chauvin\u2019s knee for nearly nine minutes as he repeatedly told the officer he couldn\u2019t breathe.<\/p>\n

Bell\u2019s office was tipped off to the posts more than a week ago, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a public forum,\u201d Bell told the news<\/a>paper. \u201cThis post was put out to the world. We do have freedom of speech but you also have to deal with the consequences of that speech.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bernsen declined to comment when reached by the newspaper, referring calls to the Hillsdale\u2019s city attorney, the Post-Dispatch reports.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
