Among other things, Windows 11 requires that you use a Microsoft account when you install it. Here\u2019s how you can avoid using a Microsoft account while installing Windows 11 or convert an existing Microsoft account into a local one.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Install_Windows_11_Without_a_Microsoft_Account\"><\/span>How to Install Windows 11 Without a Microsoft Account<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Typically, you would use the Windows <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Creation tool to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/784979\/how-to-create-a-bootable-windows-11-usb-drive\/\">create a bootable DVD or USB drive, then install Windows 11 that way. Unfortunately, you\u2019ll be stuck logging in with a Microsoft account if you do that.<\/p>\n<p>Windows 10 lets you use a local account if you disconnect from the internet. The latest version of Windows 11, however, will not \u2014 if you try the same trick, you\u2019ll just get an error message. It does everything the Windows Media Creation tool does, except it has additional options and works with almost any operating system out there.<\/p>\n<p>Newer versions of Rufus have a few extra features designed specifically to streamline installing Windows 11: It can disable the TPM, RAM, and Secure Boot requirements, and it can also disable the Microsoft account requirement. You only need a few things to use Rufus:<\/p>\n<p>The first thing you need to do is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/rufus.ie\/\">download Rufus<\/a>\u00a0and install it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>Where Are My <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Download<\/a>s on Windows?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then you have two choices: You can <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=2QzUaswX1as&amp;mid=24542&amp;u1=htg\/836157|xid:{xid}&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows11&amp;___trxnet=ls\">manually download a Windows 11 ISO<\/a>, or you can let Rufus download the latest ISO for you. It is often useful to have ISOs of your operating system on hand, so we\u2019ll download it manually in this example.<\/p>\n<p>Head over to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=2QzUaswX1as&amp;mid=24542&amp;u1=htg\/836157|xid:{xid}&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fsoftware-download%2Fwindows11&amp;___trxnet=ls\">Microsoft\u2019s Windows 11 download page<\/a>, select \u201cWindows 11 (multi-edition ISO)\u201d from the dropdown list, then click \u201cDownload.\u201d You\u2019ll need to pick your language, then hit \u201cConfirm.\u201d The ISO is about 5 gigabytes, so don\u2019t expect it to be done instantly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-836899\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DL-W11.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"281\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_warning\"><p><strong>Warning:<\/strong> Using Rufus to create a bootable USB drive will completely erase the contents of that drive. Make sure you save any important files on it before you proceed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Open Rufus after the Windows 11 ISO has finished downloading, click \u201cSelect,\u201d then navigate to wherever you saved it. If you\u2019re using an external SSD as your bootable media, you\u2019ll need to tick \u201cList USB Hard Drives\u201d first.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-836909\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/usb-hdd-and-select.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"500\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Rufus will handle most of the important options, like the partition scheme and file system, automatically; you don\u2019t need to worry about them. Just click \u201cStart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-836912\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/click-start.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"500\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Pick out what Windows 11 requirements you want disabled. The only one you <strong>must<\/strong> select is \u201cRemove Requirement For An Online Microsoft Account.\u201d The others are handy too, especially if you\u2019re upgrading an older PC that might not support TPM 2.0.<\/p>\n<p>Click \u201cOK\u201d when you are done choosing what requirements you want disabled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-836916\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/questions.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Disable certain Windows 11 installation requirements. The second option, &quot;Remove Requirement For An Online Microsoft Account,&quot; is essential. \" width=\"548\" height=\"238\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After that you just need to wait for Rufus to actually make the bootable media. It will take a few minutes at least, especially if you\u2019re using an older flash drive.<\/p>\n<p>Next, you need to restart your computer and change the boot order. This process varies between computers and motherboard manufacturers. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a>ly, tapping the F2, Del, or F8 key will bring up a screen that\u2019ll let you pick your boot device, but it could be a different key. If you don\u2019t know what key to press, and you aren\u2019t told which key when your computer is booting up, consult the manual for your computer or motherboard. Windows 11 will walk you through the rest of the installation process.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Convert_an_Existing_Microsoft_Login_to_a_Local_Login\"><\/span>How to Convert an Existing Microsoft Login to a Local Login<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The easy workaround using Rufus to install Windows 11 without a Microsoft account only appeared a few months prior to the release of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/813305\/whats-new-in-windows-11s-22h2-update-top-10-new-features\/\">Windows 11\u2019s 2022 Update, so most people currently using Windows 11 will have Microsoft logins.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_warning\"><p><strong>Warning:<\/strong> If you\u2019re using BitLocker and switch to a local account without backing up your recovery key, it is possible that you will permanently lose access to your data. We\u2019ll explain how to do that.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fortunately, Microsoft has included a feature that lets you quickly convert a Microsoft-based login to a local login. Open up the Settings app, click on the \u201cAccounts\u201d tab, then click on \u201cYour Info.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_tip\"><p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> You can open the Settings app by hitting the Windows+i hotkey.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-836447\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Go-to-settings-app-click-account-tab-then-click-your-info.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"411\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Scroll towards the bottom and click \u201cSign In With A Local Account Instead.\u201d If you get a huge popup warning you about backing up your BitLocker key, <strong>do not ignore it. <\/strong>Your drive is encrypted, and if something happens, you could lose access to all of your files without the recovery key.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-836479\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/switch-warning.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"A warning message. You also need to be careful now. Your account is a local-only account, which means that Microsoft won\u2019t be able to help you regain access if you forget something.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, if you attempt to encrypt your drive on a local account, you\u2019ll be told you need to sign in to a Microsoft account to finish the process.
