When you\u2019re looking forward, those things very well might derail the economy and cause this mild to hard recession people are talking about \u2026 so that may erode the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dimon reserved his most damning comments and dismal predictions for cryptocurrency. In the wake of the FTX collapse he slammed crypto as \u201ca complete sideshow\u201d \u2014 and added digital coins are as useless as \u201cpet rocks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dimon, whose net worth is currently\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/jamie-dimon\/?sh=26b87bf55063\">pegged by Forbes at $1.6 billion<\/a>, has repeatedly denigrated bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, variously calling them a \u201cdecentralized Ponzi scheme,\u201d \u201cfraud\u201d and \u201cfool\u2019s gold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The JPMorgan boss has been warning for months that the economy is likely to face a downturn. According to a\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/jamie-dimon-sounds-off-morning-brief-110044236.html?campaign_id=4&amp;emc=edit_dk_20220822&amp;instance_id=69931&amp;nl=dealbook&amp;regi_id=164961711&amp;segment_id=102041&amp;te=1&amp;user_id=5ef371fe7e1f11b9800a7c6ad4a0bedb#:~:text=It%20is%20a,single%20point%20forecast.%27\">leaked audio recording<\/a> earlier this year, Dimon told his wealthiest investors he believes there\u2019s a 90% chance the US is headed for a recession.<\/p>\n<p>In June, Dimon made headlines for warning of a looming economic \u201churricane.\u201d\u00a0He said factors including Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine \u2014 which he likened to a new Cold War \u2014 and the Federal Reserve\u2019s massive tightening of monetary supply could push the economy into a downtown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a hurricane. Right now, it\u2019s kind of sunny, things are doing fine, everyone thinks the Fed can handle this,\u201d Dimon said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat hurricane is right out there, down the road, coming our way,\u201d he added. \u201cWe just don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a minor one or Superstorm Sandy or Andrew or something like that.
