Kathy Hochul, whom they surely consulted) for t<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing John King as SUNY\u2019s 15th chancellor. He should serve as a much-needed force for excellence at all levels in New York education. <\/p>\n<p>And not just <em>higher <\/em>education: SUNY\u2019s chancellor serves a vital role on public K-12 charter schools, making recommendations on granting new charters (and, where needed, revoking old ones).<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s particularly important now. The other charter authorizer, the state Board of Regents, has become a force for mediocrity (or worse).   <\/p>\n<p>King has served admirably as US secretary of education from 2015 to 16 and New York education commissioner from 2011 to 14. He\u2019s been a champion of high standards, but also of quality <em>community-college<\/em> education. And he\u2019s already vowed to also bolster SUNY\u2019s research institutions as part of his mission \u201cto make the best public higher education system in the country.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His record on charters is excellent. He co-founded Roxbury Prep, a top charter middle school in Massachusetts, and helmed <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/uncommonschools.org\/\">Uncommon Schools<\/a>, a network of nationally recognized charters. In 2011, he was inducted into the national Charter School Hall of Fame by the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.publiccharters.org\/\">National Alliance for Public Charter Schools<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And he\u2019s warned that \u201carbitrary caps\u201d on charters, like those now preventing the sector\u2019s growth in New York City, \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/2016\/10\/19\/king-charter-schools-caps\/92431532\/\">don\u2019t make sense.<\/a>\u201c<\/p>\n<p>We hope his appointment is a signal that Hochul is ready to lift those caps.<\/p>\n<p>But for now, at least New York has at least one top education leader who believes both in high standards and in fostering success for children of all backgrounds and levels of ability.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
