Innovation is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/office-of-the-mayor\/news\/485-22\/mayor-adams-cto-fraser-linknyc-first-link5g-kiosk-new-york-city#\/0\">overseeing the installation <\/a>of 2,000 Link5G street towers across the city to bolster service \u2014 including 18 in Community Board 8 on the UES.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But residents and businesses there complain\u00a0the towers are an eyesore, a potential environmental health hazard, and will attract vagrants.<\/p>\n<p>State Assemblywoman Rebecca Seawright, who represents the UES, even sent a letter to Adams calling for a moratorium on 5G expansion amid the not-on-my-street backlash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur office is receiving numerous complaints regarding the 18 additional Link NYC sites that have been proposed for the Upper East Side,\u201d Seawright told\u00a0Adams in the Dec. 7 missive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we understand the importance of expanding access to critical telecommunication tools, community level input is essential.\u00a0 With great concern from our neighbors for a rushed implementation, I request a moratorium on further expansion of 5G on the Upper East Side before residents can weigh in on the proposed sites.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm008.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Some Upper East Side residents are opposing the city's plan to install 18 Link5G towers in the neighborhood \u2014 including at 1040 Park Avenue.\" class=\"wp-image-24976568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm008.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm008.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm008.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Some Upper East Side residents are opposing the city\u2019s plan to install 18 Link5G towers in the neighborhood \u2014 including at 1040 Park Avenue.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">G.N.Miller\/NYPost<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Seawright said she\u2019s concerned the towers\u2019 installation was already \u201cin the last steps before implementation\u201d by the time city officials and the wireless consortium shared details with the community. <\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker also said she\u2019s\u00a0\u201cwary\u201d after complaining the OTI ignored queries about an antenna being installed on a city-owned street map outside of 520 East 90th Street  \u201cwithout notification\u201d to elected officials. Gaston<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Three of the towers would be in the Madison Avenue historic district, noted Matthew Bauer, president of the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District \u2014 and said \u201cit doesn\u2019t seem fair. It doesn\u2019t seem right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Resident Radames Soto said the wireless towers were unnecessary\u00a0because \u201cour service is great, our wifi is great.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He said the Madison Avenue shopping district \u2014 with the most luxury stores \u201con the planet\u201d \u2014 is still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, is struggling to clamp down on thefts, and shouldn\u2019t be sullied with ugly towers.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to help make it more elegant\u2026 not make it uglier,\u201d Soto said. <\/p>\n<p>East Side Councilman Keith Powers also parroted the NIMBY mantra.<\/p>\n<p>During\u00a0a virtual <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ny85SwIQQO4\">Community Board 8 meeting <\/a>last week that\u00a0attracted more than 100 anti-tower participants, a statement from Powers declared the towers \u201cthreaten the aesthetic and charm of the neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do share my constituents\u2019 concerns about installing towers in residential areas where they will. surely be obtrusive,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>But city officials defend the Link5G\u00a0project as essential to the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le\u2019s future. <\/p>\n<p>OTI spokesman Ray Legendre told The Post the agency welcomed the UES\u2019 \u201cvaluable feedback\u201d during the 60-day review process, but added: \u201cThis administration believes that digital connectivity is a human right, necessary to fully participate and access opportunities in modern society.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm005.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"The city plans to install at tower outside of 1040 Park Avenue in Manhattan.\" class=\"wp-image-24976624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm005.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm005.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/121122CellTowerAt1040ParkAvenue_gnm005.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The city plans to install a tower outside of 1040 Park Avenue in Manhattan.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">G.N.Miller\/NYPost<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Adams, when announcing the Link5G program in July said \u201caccessible broadband and phone service isn\u2019t a luxury \u2014 it\u2019s a necessity.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to digital services, we know that too many New Yorkers have been left behind,\u201d he added. \u201cOur administration is committed to changing that and ensuring that all of our city\u2019s residents have access to tech services, no matter where they live.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to OTI, statistics prove the need, reporting that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40% or 1.5 million city households lack an adequate combination of home and mobile broadband.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Of the 2,000 Link5G kiosks being erected across the city, 90% will be installed in underserved neighborhoods in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and above 96th Street in Manhattan. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>65% of NYCHA residents reported having dropped calls the prior month.<\/li>\n<li>All 5G equipment is required to adhere to strict Federal Communications Commission safety regulations.<\/li>\n<li>The Public Design Commission has approved the design for Link5G.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
