(AP) \u2014 The city of Richmond \u2014 the capital of the Confederacy for most of the Civil War \u2014 has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/richmond-virginia-0b1c717acd7da75dc2def5e7af04db0a\" data-ylk=\"slk:removed its last public Confederate statue\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">removed its last public Confederate statue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Richmond <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/richmond-race-and-ethnicity-virginia-levar-stoney-948c3e176fc07d0d7b81c63a8fae38e4\" data-ylk=\"slk:removed\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">removed<\/a> its other Confederate monuments amid the racial justice protests that followed <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/death-of-george-floyd\" data-ylk=\"slk:George Floyd\u2019s killing\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">George Floyd\u2019s killing<\/a> in 2020. But efforts to remove the statue of Confederate <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> A.P. Hill, which sits in the middle of a busy intersection near a school where traffic accidents are frequent, were more complicated because the general\u2019s remains were interred beneath it.<\/p>\n<p>It took just minutes to free the statue from the base Monday morning, before a crane using yellow straps looped under the statue&#8217;s arms lifted it onto a bed of tires on a flatbed truck.<\/p>\n<p>The statue will be given to the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>In September, attorneys for Hill\u2019s indirect descendants agreed his remains would be moved to a cemetery in Culpeper, near where Hill was born. But the plaintiffs argued that the ownership of the statue should be transferred to them. They hoped to move it to a battlefield, also in Culpeper, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> outlets.<\/p>\n<p>In October, news outlets reported that Circuit Court Judge David Eugene Cheek Sr. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/richmond-lawsuits-race-and-ethnicity-virginia-culpeper-b30705759cf85cfaedc83704f4d72f8a\" data-ylk=\"slk:ruled\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">ruled<\/a> that city officials \u2014 not the descendants \u2014 get to decide where the statue goes next.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
