Season 2, which is set in Sicily, ended with the shocking death of the lovable character.<\/p>\n<p>Coolidge, who won an Emmy for her portrayal of the lovably flawed character in Season 1, admitted in a recent interview with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/tv\/jennifer-coolidge-white-lotus-season-2-finale-ending-tanyas-death\/\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a> that show creator Mike White used her own personality traits to inspire the character on the show.<\/p>\n<p>White, 52, and Coolidge, 61, have been friends since they met on \u201cGentlemen Broncos\u201d in 2009 \u2014 and Coolidge admits he knows her pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMike is sitting there, he\u2019s this brilliant mind, and he\u2019s just observes people. He was observing my na\u00efvet\u00e9 with a lot of my male relationships and saw how I just believed people in a very naive way,\u201d Coolidge explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cSometimes it\u2019s good because, certainly I\u2019m not discriminating of anyone in any way, but I sort of open the door and sometimes my realization of who someone was and what their intentions are are very slow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cAmerican Pie\u201d and \u201cLegally Blonde\u201d actress confessed she thinks that White took real-life situations she had been in where she has with people she \u201cshouldn\u2019t have been in with at all\u201d and combined them to influence Tanya\u2019s storyline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still want to call it na\u00efvet\u00e9 \u2014 otherwise I\u2019m just stupid,\u201d Coolidge said with a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just people that are putting on a really good show, but they don\u2019t like you, really, deep down,\u201d she added. \u201cYou know, I\u2019m not one of these people that\u2019s made millions and millions of dollars in our industry, but whenever I had, whatever little I had, they were there to take it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/Jennifer-Coolidge-66.jpg?w=683\" alt=\"Jennifer Coolidge\" class=\"wp-image-24992155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/Jennifer-Coolidge-66.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1366 1366w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/Jennifer-Coolidge-66.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/Jennifer-Coolidge-66.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=683 683w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/Jennifer-Coolidge-66.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=341 341w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\"\/><figcaption>Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuiod-Hunt in Season 2 of \u201cThe White Lotus.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Mario Perez\/HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the Season 2 finale of \u201cWhite Lotus,\u201d viewers learned that Tanya was being plotted against and taken advantage of for her money, echoing Coolidge\u2019s sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cAnd my obliviousness, my oblivious nature of not seeing the writing on the wall and actually denying any sort of sign that something was amiss, I was denying it. And sometimes it just doesn\u2019t work out well for vulnerable people in a world with some really bad people,\u201d she said. \u201cEven though Tanya was a very flawed person and in many ways, you could say she was not nice and self-centered and all that, but some people are in this lifetime get surrounded by a group of people and it\u2019s very hard sometimes to know who the good guys are and the bad guys are in this world. Poor Tanya, she misjudged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Coolidge believed Tanya had to die to fit in to the story White wanted to tell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was an episode about women and all that they have to put up with and all their survival techniques that are revealed in this,\u201d she said. \u201cBut everyone\u2019s just trying to survive when all this mean stuff is going on. It\u2019s like how do you handle betrayal? They somehow thought it was all in Tanya\u2019s head or whatever. They didn\u2019t get that I was dead dead, forever. Dead in every sense,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then I had to watch and listen to their reactions like, \u2018Oh, really?
