Sorry: No one \u201cwill forgo nuclear weapons because of America\u2019s moral example.\u201d To the degree the NPT has worked, it\u2019s thanks to America\u2019s power: \u201cIf Joe Biden really wants the NPT to have a future, he needs to lead a massive buildup of U.S. military capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Libertarian_The_Feds_PPP-Fraud_Blame_Game\"><\/span>Libertarian: The Feds\u2019 PPP-Fraud Blame Game<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A House subcommittee blaming <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>-based financial-service firms for fraud in the Paycheck Protection Program is \u201ca bit like blaming a bank robbery on whichever company manufactured the getaway car,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2022\/12\/12\/congress-has-a-new-scapegoat-for-covid-fraud-banking-apps\/\">fumes Reason\u2019s Eric Boehm<\/a>. Up to \u201ca third of the $835 billion distributed via the program is suspected of having been stolen by fraudsters in part because of lax oversight,\u201d but while \u201csome fintech firms\u201d facilitated it, the Small Business Administration \u201cfailed to implement systems and missed clear signs of fraud in much the same way.\u201d The committee says fintech firms \u201cought to be banned from being involved in federal lending programs because a few members of that industry engaged in some bad behavior \u2014 behavior that was rampant within the same government that now should regulate them.\u201d How \u201cdoes this make sense at all?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Defense_watch_Taiwans_Growing_Danger\"><\/span>Defense watch: Taiwan\u2019s Growing Danger<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cU.S. officials keep lowering the time frame for China to make its military move on Taiwan,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/international\/3772336-us-strategic-ambiguity-creeps-from-taiwan-to-ukraine-and-worries-both\/\">notes Joseph Bosco at The Hill<\/a>, not because of Beijing\u2019s growing power but its assessment of \u201cthe will of the United States to prevent it.\u201d Notably, after Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s recent visit to Taiwan, Beijing\u2019s \u201cbarrage of missile firings and naval and air operations on the water, in the air, and through the space surrounding and over Taiwan brought no overt U.S. or allied response.\u201d And Beijing saw Biden\u2019s \u201ccalamitous\u201d retreat from Afghanistan as a \u201cdemonstration of a flagging U.S. will to sustain commitments to security partners that are less than formal allies.\u201d So, it\u2019s no good sign that \u201cstrategic ambiguity is seeping from Taiwan policy into U.S. intentions on Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Iowan_Why_Dems_Lose_Rural_America\"><\/span>Iowan: Why Dems Lose Rural America<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Democrats just opted to \u201cdump the Iowa caucuses into the ditch,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/11\/opinion\/democrats-iowa-caucus.html\">grumbles Art Cullen at The New York Times<\/a>. OK, \u201cbut discarding Iowa is not a great way to mend fences in rural America \u2014 where the Democratic brand has become virtually unmarketable.\u201d In fact, \u201cThe Democratic big shots hated Iowa\u2019s pride of place\u201d because \u201cmoney couldn\u2019t control the outcome\u201d as \u201ccandidates were forced to meet actual voters in village diners across the state.\u201d As for \u201cdiversity\u201d: \u201cObama beat Hillary Clinton here. Iowa had no problem giving a gay man, Pete Buttigieg, and a Jewish democratic <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a>ist, Bernie Sanders, the two top tickets\u201d in 2020. Yet \u201cthe caucuses haven\u2019t\u201d done much for Iowa: \u201cDespite all the attention, nothing really happened to stop the long decline as the state\u2019s Main Streets withered, farmers disappeared and the undocumented dwell in the shadows. Republican or Democrat, the outcome was pretty much the same. At least the Republicans will cut your taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conservative_A_Grim_Poll_for_Trump\"><\/span>Conservative: A Grim Poll for Trump<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The new Suffolk poll showing Ron DeSantis far ahead of Donald Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination \u201cshould be taken with a grain of salt until it is confirmed by multiple pollsters,\u201d but \u201cis un-spinnably bad <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for Trump,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/shocking-poll-desantis-up-23-on-trump-up-4-on-biden\/\">explains National Review\u2019s Dan McLaughlin<\/a>. Yes, \u201cit\u2019s a long way\u201d to 2024, but if Trump\u2019s \u201cformer supporters defect, it\u2019s not a decision easily undone by a candidate who will be 77\u201d and \u201ctalks mainly about himself and his own past.
