The so-called abuser? Her \u201calleged housekeeper\u201d Inga Eggerud, a Norwegian immigrant Kohler and her late husband had been friends with since 2011. Without providing any evidence, the petition added that Eggerud was currently the \u201csubject of a criminal investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of proof, New York County Supreme Court responded to the management company\u2019s filing by <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointing a stranger to take control of Kohler\u2019s life and finances. Then, in April, Eggerud \u2014 who Kohler named her power of attorney and beneficiary in 2021 \u2014 was barred from seeing her friend. The following month, Kohler\u2019s friend Marie Jensen and Eggerud\u2019s longtime employer Barbara Goodstein were also barred from seeing Kohler, who has no living relatives.<\/p>\n<p>In June, when Kohler was finally allowed to go home from the rehab center, she went to Goodstein\u2019s apartment in search of Eggerud. The nonagenarian pays just $1,910 a month for her two-bedroom home at 500 West End Ave., where she\u2019s lived since 1957. Other units at the tony doorman building regularly rent for well over $8,000 a month and sell for more than $3 million, according to recent listings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/500-West-End-Ave-03.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"rent control tenant guardianship uws\" class=\"wp-image-24997610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/500-West-End-Ave-03.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/500-West-End-Ave-03.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/500-West-End-Ave-03.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>500 West End Ave., where Kohler has a rent-controlled apartment. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Google Maps<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe avarice of the building has only been rivaled by a predatory court system that has marshaled Ms. Kohler\u2019s entire net worth, which is being used to pay the people the court has imposed on her against her will,\u201d Goodstein told The Post. \u201cShe has lost her civil rights, her voice and access to proper medical care. And now she will die alone, while her friends watch helplessly from a distance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attorney for the building\u2019s LLC insisted to NBC that their only concern has always been to protect a vulnerable person from being exploited. A representative of the building did not return The Post\u2019s request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eggerud, Goodstein and Jensen have since been unbarred from seeing Kohler, but the guardianship has proved disastrous for her already failing health \u2014 and her friends fear she has little time left.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe spent the last seven months of her life completely isolated from the people she loves. Verdugo\u2019s court-installed guardian says Verdugo has \u201crefused to communicate with her\u201d and the court-appointed attorneys says Verdugo\u2019s family may not be operating in his best interests. His daughter, however, says they \u201cknow nothing about my father\u201d and that the situation is very painful. She has filed to terminate the guardianship.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuardianship cases are some of the most fraught, so the fact that a litigant is not pleased with the outcome is an unfortunate reality,\u201d a NY Courts spokesperson told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The next and ninth hearing in Kohler\u2019s case is set for Jan. 17. Her friends are continuing their fight to remove Kohler\u2019s court-appointed guardian, but should that not happen before what Goodstein says is her \u201cimminent\u201d death, they hope at least that she may pass away surrounded by those she loves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want her to go in peace,\u201d Eggerud said.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
