Nobody wants to deal with carpal tunnel, which can interfere with work, play, and nearly every other aspect of your life. They often have a limited range of motion due to their chunky, heavy, or awkward design. And because these mice aren\u2019t intended for gaming, they often have a low polling rate of 125Hz or less, which can produce a noticeable amount of latency on high refresh rate monitors.<\/p>\n<p>So, while you <em>can<\/em> use an ergonomic office mouse for gaming, the experience isn\u2019t all that great. And, if possible, you may need to adjust some settings\u2014a higher DPI setting can compensate for a mouse\u2019s limited range of motion, for example.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a casual gamer, or someone who sticks to non-action games, these problems may not matter. You don\u2019t need a fancy mouse to play\u00a0<em>Stardew Valley<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em>, or\u00a0<em>Civilization<\/em>. An ergonomic mouse designed for office work, such as the Logitech Lift, is a fine choice.<\/p>\n<p>But what about hardcore or competitive gamers? Well, you\u2019re in luck. They require constant, jittery wrist movements, and are often played for several hours without a break. Even if you use an ultra-lightweight mouse, gaming will contribute to repetitive stress injury.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why ergonomic gaming mice are slowly gaining popularity. These products usually go by names like \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Razer-DeathAdder-Hyperspeed-Award-Winning-Programmable\/dp\/B09GK3LTVC?tag=lsmedia-13448-20\">Razer Deathadder V2 X Hyperspeed<\/a>,\u201d which can make shopping a bit confusing. They also lack the bulky or vertical designs that are so common among \u201cprofessional\u201d ergonomic mice. Still, they promise to deliver a comfortable gaming experience without compromising on speed and accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>From what I can tell, Razer\u2019s Deathadder V2 X Hyperspeed is currently the most popular ergonomic gaming mouse. And it\u2019s a pretty solid option\u2014not only is it highly customizable, but it feels like a lightweight version of Logitech\u2019s MX-series mice. (It\u2019s also super affordable, which is nice.)<\/p>\n<p>But there are some rising stars in this market. The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/ROCCAT-Ergonomic-Performance-Wireless-Aluminum\/dp\/B091BJB6B6?tag=lsmedia-13448-20\">ROCCAT Kone Pro Air<\/a>\u00a0has an incredible cult following and is widely regarded as the most comfortable gaming mouse. FANTECH\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/XD5-Programmable-Ultra-lightweight-Ergonomic-Ultra-slim\/dp\/B09JK4BC4D?tag=lsmedia-13448-20\">Helios Go XD5<\/a> is a popular ergonomic option for gamers with small hands, and competitive players love the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/XD5-Programmable-Ultra-lightweight-Ergonomic-Ultra-slim\/dp\/B09JK4BC4D?tag=lsmedia-13448-20\">Pulsar Xlite\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0ridiculously lightweight design.<\/p>\n<p>Note that several factors can contribute to repetitive stress injury. And, in fact, I use a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Apple-Magic-Trackpad-Wireless-Rechargable\/dp\/B09BRG3MZ2?tag=lsmedia-13448-20\">Magic Trackpad<\/a> at my desk. While I wouldn\u2019t call trackpads \u201cergonomic,\u201d they can reduce wrist movement by placing more control at the tip of your finger.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, trackpads are a very poor choice for gaming. They\u2019re fine for point-and-click titles, but if you want to play action-packed shooters or MMOs, you should avoid using a trackpad.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, I\u2019ve found that trackball mice are an excellent ergonomic gaming solution (with some practice). I\u2019m a huge fan of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Kensington-Expert-Wireless-Trackball-K72359WW\/dp\/B01936N73I?tag=lsmedia-13448-20\">Kensington Expert<\/a>, a legendary trackball mouse that features four buttons and a rotary scroll wheel. It\u2019s easily customizable, it\u2019s comfortable, and if you\u2019re trying to game without hurting your wrist, it\u2019s a reasonable\u00a0option. (You\u2019ll need to adjust a lot of settings to get the sensitivity right, though.)<\/p>\n<p>The Kensington Expert is my preferred trackball mouse, but there are plenty of great alternatives.
