But Warner Bros. may have considered one piece of news not big enough for a flashy announcement, quietly introducing a piece of casting in a press release sent out during DC FanDome. Warner Bros. revealed that\u00a0<em>Dunkirk<\/em> star\u00a0Barry Keoghan, who is set to star in a Marvel superhero movie in the upcoming\u00a0<em>The Eternals<\/em>, has joined\u00a0<em>The Batman<\/em> cast as a character named Officer Stanley Merkel.<\/p>\n<p>Fans of the Batman comic books may know Merkel as Commissioner James Gordon\u2019s first partner, first introduced by Frank Miller in\u00a01987\u2019s\u00a0<em>Batman Year One<\/em>\u00a0and subsequently killed by Sofia Falcone in\u00a0<em>Batman: Dark Victory.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Considering that Reeves confirmed that\u00a0<em>The Batman<\/em> will draw inspiration from\u00a0<em>Batman: Year Two<\/em> and follow the Caped Crusader in his second year of crimefighting, as he\u2019s taking part in\u00a0a \u201ccriminological experiment\u201d to try to change Gotham for the better, it makes sense that a character from Gordon\u2019s early career will appear in the film. Though there is more of a significant age gap between Keoghan (who, like <em>The\u00a0<\/em><em>Batman<\/em>\u00a0star\u00a0<strong>Robert Pattinson<\/strong>, carved out a niche with films from indie studio A24) and\u00a0<strong>Jeffrey Wright<\/strong>\u2018s Gordon than the same characters have in the comics. Keoghan is probably best associated with his creepy, sociopathic turns in films like\u00a0Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019\u00a0<em>The Killing of a Sacred Deer<\/em>, which makes me think he\u2019ll put a more sinister turn on the character of Stanley Merkel. Though he\u2019s got a major role in\u00a0<em>The Eternals<\/em> coming up, I wonder if Keoghan will keep hanging out in Gotham City, with Reeves\u2019 teasing of a\u00a0<em>Gotham PD\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> that will spin off from the film following its corrupt police force.
