Microsoft updated its acceptable use policy on Dec. 1 to clarify that \u201cmining cryptocurrency is prohibited without prior Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cAcceptable Use Policy\u201d section, Microsoft said that it now <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/licensing\/terms\/product\/ForOnlineServices\/MCA\">requires<\/a> users to obtain a written pre-approval from the company in order to use any of Microsoft Online Services for crypto mining.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft reportedly said that its latest crypto mining restrictions aim to protect the online services from risks like cyber fraud, attacks and unauthorized access to customer resources, stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe made this change to further protect our customers and mitigate the risk of disrupting or impairing services in the Microsoft Cloud.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The firm also reportedly noted that it may consider permission to mine crypto for testing and research purposes for security detections.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft did not im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely respond to Cointelegraph\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft Online Services is Microsoft\u2019s hosted-software offering and is a component of the firm\u2019s software as a service strategy. These services include Microsoft&#8217;s Azure cloud computing network, which is known to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/answers\/questions\/610334\/crypto-mining-with-azure.html\">offer<\/a> cryptocurrency mining on certain subscription types. As previously reported, Microsoft also experimented with blockchain services on Azure, but quietly terminated its Azure Blockchain Service project in September last year.<\/p>\n<p>According to some reports, Microsoft cloud computing systems have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/microsoft-cloud-computing-system-suffering-from-global-shortage\">suffered<\/a> notable capacity shortages in recent years due to continuing supply-chain limitations. More than half a dozen Azure data centers are reportedly expected to remain limited until early 2023.<\/p>\n<p>By adopting the new restrictions, Microsoft joins many other cloud computing providers, including Google, which also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/terms\">prohibits<\/a> customers from engaging in cryptocurrency mining without Google&#8217;s prior written approval.
