Chappelle was uninjured and able to finish the show. \u201cThat was a trans man,\u201d he joked to the crowd after the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Other performers at the festival included Black Star, Busta Rhymes, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart and Jeff Ross.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=l103_eKFfPU\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=l103_eKFfPU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dave Chappelle later claimed he spoke to the attacker before he was taken away by the paramedics, with the comedian alleging Lee told him he carried out the attack to raise awareness for his grandmother in Brooklyn after she was displaced from her home due to gentrification.<\/p>\n<p>But during an interview inside jail, Lee said the attack was triggered by Chappelle\u2019s jokes about transgender and homeless people.<\/p>\n<p>Chappelle\u2019s lawyer previously told <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-news\/dave-chappelle-hollywood-bowl-battery-suspect-arraignment-1349211\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> he wanted Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n to reconsider and file felony charges for the incident. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Chappelle wants this case charged as a felony,\u201d he said in a statement at the time. \u201cEntertainers in Los Angeles need to know that the justice system will protect them on stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit400\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Isaiah Lee\u2019s plea came roughly one-and-a-half months after a judge rejected the defense\u2019s request for a diversion program that could have resulted in the dismissal of the charges.<\/p>\n<p>The man is set to return to court on January 19 for an unrelated attempted murder charge, in which he\u2019s alleged to have stabbed his roommate at a transitional housing facility in December 2021.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"author\" itemprop=\"author\" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Person\"><meta itemprop=\"name\" content=\"Joe Walker\">by Joe Walker<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
