Kathy Hochul signed last fall makes it \u201ca goal of the state\u201d for all new passenger cars and trucks sold or leased in New York after 2034 to be zero-emission vehicles. Interim state goals include having 850,000 ZEVs on the road by 2025, up from about 87,000 now \u2014 plus having them be 35% of new car sales in 2026 and 68% in 2030, when they\u2019re now under 4%.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>This would require incredibly drastic shifts in consumer behavior, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.empirecenter.org\/publications\/let-the-market-drive-electric-car-sales\/\">Hanley explains<\/a>: The 2025 goal requires New Yorkers to buy EVs at <em>nine times<\/em> the current rate by then \u2014 doubling, redoubling and doubling again. By 2030, EVs would have to be 60% of all new-car purchases for the math to work.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the auto industry may not even produce enough new electric vehicles to make that possible, not when California has similar goals. Heck, just making the needed high-tech batteries will challenge industry.<\/p>\n<p>H<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ily, Hanley estimates that natural market forces may get New York close to the 2035 goal by 2050 or so \u2014 which does nearly as much good when it comes to global emissions.<\/p>\n<p>So, as long as the state doesn\u2019t try <em>forcing <\/em>the future to arrive early, it\u2019ll only be another case of politicians promising more than they can actually deliver.\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
