Grassley demands Biden take &#8216;active role&#8217; in stalled Big Tech antitrust bill&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>The top Republican backer of a stalled antitrust bill demanded President Joe Biden take an \u201cactive role\u201d in ending the nearly year-long logjam over the bipartisan legislation that cracks down on Big Tech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, who co-sponsored The Internet Innovation and Choice Act with Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), wants Biden to pressure Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to include elements of their antitrust bill in the omnibus package that must be passed by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the President wants to accomplish something on this front, then the White House needs to start taking an active role in pushing Leader Schumer and the Democratic caucus to bring this bill to a vote before the year is out,\u201d Grassley told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi reportedly hammered out a framework for the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriations bill on Wednesday \u2013 avoiding a government shutdown. However, the details have yet to be finalized before a final vote this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSen. It would prevent platforms from \u201cself-preferencing\u201d their content. For instance, Amazon would no longer be able to promote its own goods over third-party sellers on its e-commerce site.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bill has faced massive headwinds from deep-pocketed Big Tech lobbyists. Amazon, Apple, Meta and Google combined to spend more than $35 million in just the first half of the year on lobbying efforts, Bloomberg reported.<\/p>\n<p>The companies have also flooded Beltway airwaves with commercials opposing antitrust bills and bought ad space in influential <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>letters like Politico Playbook.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you don\u2019t count all the paid shills working for Big Tech, Schumer is the last guy in Washington holding out on this legislation \u201d said Luther Lowe, Senior Vice President of Public Policy at Yelp.\ufeff<\/p>\n<p>Proponents of the antitrust legislation say the omnibus package, which will appropriate government funding for the next year, is the perfect vehicle to end the stalemate.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/chuck-schumer-221212-50.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that Congress will vote on a bill to fund the government for another seven days this week.\" class=\"wp-image-24987019\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/chuck-schumer-221212-50.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/chuck-schumer-221212-50.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/chuck-schumer-221212-50.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Countless lawmakers have children working in big tech.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Photo by Jemal Countess\/Getty Images for SEIU<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Insiders add that there is a major push from lawmakers who support antitrust legislation to include key provisions from other proposed bills seeking to throttle Big Tech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven people who are whining about where the commas go in the omnibus aren\u2019t opposed to legislation that reins in tech companies,\u201d an insider told The Post. \u201cLeveling the playing field in the Big Tech space isn\u2019t super controversial.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s more than Big Tech money pushing against the antitrust bills. At least 17 lawmakers tasked with oversight of Meta, Amazon, Google and Apple have children who work at \u2014 or recently worked for \u2014 those companies, Politico reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Post reported that US Rep. Zoe Lofgren \u2014 a Democrat who\u2019s one of the most vocal opponents of antitrust bills now winding their way through Congress that would target Big Tech \u2014 has a daughter who works on Google\u2019s legal team.<\/p>\n<p>The Post also reported that both of Schumer\u2019s daughters are on the payroll of Big Tech firms. Jessica Schumer is a registered lobbyist at Amazon, according to New York state records. Alison Schumer works at <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> as a product marketing manager.<\/p>\n<p>People close to Schumer say he\u2019s held off on holding a vote on the Innovation Act while focusing on other priorities like codifying gay marriage and passing the so-called Inflation Reduction Act.<\/p>\n<p>But many Republicans have been left frustrated by Schumer\u2019s failure to take on Big Tech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSen. Schumer has been giving lip service to antitrust reform for over a year now,\u201d Garrett Ventry, former chief of staff to Rep.
