request to reveal customers&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n        <\/aside>\n<p>A US judge overseeing the bankruptcy of\u00a0FTX\u00a0said Friday he would allow\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>\u00a0companies to intervene in the case so they could argue that the collapsed crypto exchange must publicly disclose the names of its customers.<\/p>\n<p>US Bankruptcy Judge John Dorsey said he would allow the New York Times, Dow Jones, Bloomberg and the Financial Times to intervene in the case but deferred arguments on requiring\u00a0FTX\u00a0to disclose customer names to a hearing on Jan. 11.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0media\u00a0companies argued that keeping customer names secret could turn bankruptcy proceedings into a \u201cfarce\u201d if creditors start fighting anonymously over how much money they should receive, the\u00a0media\u00a0companies wrote in a Delaware bankruptcy court filing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/bankman-fried-ftx.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried taken into custody this week.\" class=\"wp-image-25037869\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/bankman-fried-ftx.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/bankman-fried-ftx.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/bankman-fried-ftx.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was taken into custody this week.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>FTX\u00a0has argued that the usual US bankruptcy practice of disclosing names, addresses and email addresses of creditors, which includes customers, could expose them to scams and could violate privacy laws for those who live in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The company has also said that disclosing identities of as many as 1 million customers would make it easier for a competitor to poach them, undermining the value of\u00a0FTX\u2019s platform when it is looking for buyers.<\/p>\n<p>The US Trustee, part of the Department of Justice, has already objected to\u00a0FTX\u2019s request and argued that transparency helps protect against impropriety in bankruptcy cases.<\/p>\n<p>FTX\u00a0attorneys also told the hearing they have made \u201csignificant progress\u201d on recovering assets and an attorney for a member of the newly formed creditors committee told the court the group will select a legal team to represent them next week.<\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s bankruptcy hearing comes at the end of a dramatic week for the crypto exchange. Founder Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested on\u00a0fraud charges\u00a0on Monday,\u00a0FTX\u00a0CEO John Ray\u00a0testified\u00a0before Congress on Tuesday, and\u00a0FTX\u00a0opposed Bahamas-based liquidators\u2019\u00a0demand\u00a0for access to its systems and records on Wednesday.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
