You\u2019d never know her fourth EP, <i>Woah, What a Blur!<\/i> had just been leaked. A leaked project right before a release could send any young artist into a spiral, but Bree handled it with poise, gratitude, and a bit of rage \u2014 three pillars that have helped set the stage for her unstoppable success. <\/p>\n<p>            Bree is Brandy in Rodgers &amp; Hammerstein\u2019s Cinderella \u2014 humble, kind, vocally blessed, and unapologetically brown. The follow-up to her 2019 EP <i>Be Runway<\/i>, where she opened up about her struggles with colorism, discrimination, and self-doubt, <i>Woah, What a Blur!<\/i> comes from a place of wholeness. Even in vulnerable moments, like on \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color:#4fbead\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9tWEnX8t1po\">PICK YOUR POISON<\/a>\u201d featuring Stormzy, she\u2019s a warrior who\u2019s finally found her footing. She asserts herself on tracks like \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color:#4fbead\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IAhjmKrpA-Y\">BREEE!<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color:#4fbead\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JxIeQ9Obhvc\">ARCHIVE MAMI<\/a>,\u201d and now that she\u2019s entirely in her moment, there\u2019s weight behind her words.<\/p>\n<p>            The star of the EP, \u201cThat Girl,\u201d is another example of Bree\u2019s ability to speak herself into existence. In just a few short years, she\u2019s gone from selling children\u2019s shoes to Adele to getting free outfits from the Gaultier archives. She <i>is<\/i> that girl, and she always has been. She just didn\u2019t have your attention yet.<\/p>\n<p>            Now that she\u2019s grabbed it, what she does with it next will matter most. Can you run me through your last two months?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            <b>Bree Runway:<\/b> They\u2019ve been very busy. Because of how busy it got, I finished the EP in a week. My setup at home for recording is still as ghetto as it was in 2015, so I was still under a quilt. There was no Westlake Studios, where Michael Jackson recorded <i>Thriller<\/i>, where I can be occasionally when I\u2019m in LA.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>How are you feeling about it?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            I felt disgusted after I finished it. I said to myself, \u201cI can\u2019t do it again,\u201d but this is what life is all about now: giving and making the right amount of time for everything \u2014 the right amount of time for fun, the right amount of time to feel good about how you\u2019re making the music. But thank God, it\u2019s the first and last time I\u2019ll ever finish music like this. It felt like a blur, hence the title.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>I was gonna ask, what is that blur? I assume it\u2019s the crazy rise to pop stardom, because it\u2019s been nuts watching you.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            This year has been like \u201cWhoa, what a blur!,\u201d in a sense where people who I thought were A are not even B, they\u2019re Z. Things that were meant to be hot are cold, like, \u201cWhoa, how did that happen? I thought I was eating sugar. Hold on, this is salt.\u201d But in all of the blurry, crazy chaoticness that has taken place this year, all of the changes, all of the roller coasters in business, in relationships, in everything that I\u2019ve endured, there\u2019s major lessons I get to backpack. I don\u2019t feel bad about any of the things that have happened or any of the things I\u2019ve had to go through. I\u2019ve been through some weird shit, business-wise and people-wise \u2014 well, person-wise \u2014 but I feel grateful for all of it happening, because there\u2019s a lot to take away from it. I\u2019m the biggest grafter; I get on that horsey and I ride it.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>Do you want to talk about the album leaking? I\u2019m crying internally for you.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            I just wanna get it out there before people get excited: It\u2019s definitely not an album. It\u2019s a baby EP.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>A baby EP?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            I don\u2019t even wanna give it that clout. A collection of music.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>So the baby EP collection of music has leaked. She dropped out of the cradle. How are you feeling?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            I don\u2019t feel good about it. I feel betrayed, even by the fans that are posting about it. I haven\u2019t even announced, I haven\u2019t even hinted. You should not know there is music out there. Stop posting about it, and stop tagging me on Instagram about it. At least do it in secret. I think they\u2019re so rude.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>Talk about it.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            That freelance photographer from Holland \u2014 yeah, I saw that, mate. You should\u2019ve blurred out the track list, but you just blurred out the EP name as if that was doing me a favor. It wasn\u2019t. Stop spreading fake <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>            I\u2019m in a delusional state. I\u2019m numb. I feel like I can\u2019t do anything about it, so let me just go to Winter Wonderland, win a prize, and forget about it. That\u2019s me. I\u2019m going to a Christmas fun fair tonight, and I\u2019m gonna win a soft toy and eat a hot dog. I can\u2019t be bothered.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>Well, since the baby\u2019s out in the world, let\u2019s talk about her. I\u2019m glad it\u2019s just the EP, because I\u2019m like, \u201cI know she didn\u2019t just us give this little spoon. The song is short because it\u2019s just as quick as me going <i>type, tweet, put phone down<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>Do you know how talented you have to be to turn a tweet into a song? I feel like we\u2019re doing a disservice to <i>Woah, What a Blur!<\/i>, because I feel like an hors d\u2019oeuvres platter wouldn\u2019t have Stormzy on it.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            We had to add a bit of caviar, something unexpected, because sometimes end of year projects can be good music but feel quite low key, but with me, I have to add a dash of something in there.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>How did we get this caviar? How did \u201cPICK YOUR POISON\u201d happen?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            I was at Coachella, and I linked up with Stormzy and his gang. We were just vibing, and he was like, \u201cI have this really beautiful song I think you would be really good on.\u201d I have a beautiful voice, but I\u2019m not often drawn to ballads. But when I heard this, I was like, \u201cThis is very pretty. This is the right amount of softness, the right amount of vulnerability. It\u2019s in a space I don\u2019t often enter, so I\u2019m gonna do it.\u201d Then we finished it, and we\u2019re here now.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>It kind of slapped me in the face \u2014 \u201cWhen you pick your poison, I hope that it\u2019s me.\u201d That\u2019s so powerful. We need to have that vulnerability, and we need to go all the way and spike up to this bad bitch anthem with \u201cBREEE!\u201d I love that you\u2019re spelling your name out. I just always knew it wouldn\u2019t be forever, that I\u2019d live that fabulous, fabulous, fabulous life that I\u2019d always dreamed of. There\u2019s a notebook of mine from years ago where I was actually like, \u201cGod, please, all I want to be is me. I want to be Bree Runway full time \u2014 to work and just look like me.\u201d And now I\u2019m here.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>Do you go back to your past writings just to give you balance?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            I always go back, because there was a point in my life where I was begging to be exactly here. What was the biggest takeaway you had from that season in your life where you weren\u2019t fully Bree Runway?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            You have to hold onto some kind of faith. Otherwise, it\u2019s so easy to drown yourself in the doom and gloom of life\u2019s uninspiring chapters. You need to create that inspiration, and I\u2019m so good at living in a delusional state of mind. I was doing sales work for a children\u2019s shoe brand, but I wanted to work at Christian Louboutin, so I changed my whole swag \u2014 started dressing like I worked at Christian Louboutin, packaging the shoes like I worked at Louboutin \u2014 and I started getting VIP clients. One time, Adele came in and bought children\u2019s shoes. In my season of acting like I worked at Louboutin, I ended up working at Louboutin.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>Adele comes in the store. What happens?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            I literally blacked out. It\u2019s so many different emotions, and it\u2019s very true to its title, because sonically, it\u2019s a blur. You do not expect those kinds of tracks married together on one little project. It\u2019s a whisk of energy, a rollercoaster of emotions.<\/p>\n<p><b>When you first get into the project, the vulnerability is in your face, and then it drops into this other energy, a reclaiming: \u201cBitch, you can\u2019t touch me.\u201d Why were these songs the ones you picked for this tape over all the others? I need to know who didn\u2019t make the cut.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            There\u2019s so many great songs that didn\u2019t make the cut, but I just feel like some songs feel too big to be a throwaway. You know what I mean? I like to let certain songs marinate. There are so many great songs that didn\u2019t make the cut, but it\u2019s because they\u2019re marinating; they\u2019re being seasoned. I want the chicken to be really juicy. These songs felt ready for now, but the girls are being seasoned, and they\u2019ll be ready. It\u2019s everything that people need, and I can\u2019t wait to put it out.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>Most of your fans already know you\u2019re inspired by Missy, Lil\u2019 Kim, Britney, Pharrell, the greats, but what inspired you specifically for this appetizer project?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            It was just life: the things that have been thrown at me, the things I want to feel like, the things I want to get rid of. All my experiences made this project, really \u2014 and my producers having good beats.<\/p>\n<p>            <b>I know, moving forward, we\u2019re going to have a lot of crazy visuals for <i>Woah, What a Blur!<\/i>. We already have a lot to digest, because the \u201cTHAT GIRL\u201d video is ridiculous. Style wise, fashion wise, and just energy wise, I want to know who\u2019s on your <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pinterest<\/a> board.  What are you tapping into?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>            Right now, I\u2019m just focused on mixing textures and finding interesting shapes. I\u2019m getting rid of a lot of clothes right now. I might do a Depop sale, and get rid of stuff that\u2019s too close to what I\u2019ve been for a long time. I want to be new. I want to try new things. I want to be more colorful. I want to be <i>even more<\/i> interesting \u2014 although I\u2019m already interesting, although I\u2019m already colorful. What does an elevated version look like?
