Sessions &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjItMTIvMzQ5OGRiNDgtNzZkNi00YmZmLWE1ZWQtMjhiNTZiN2E3NjhmLmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-30a6cf80>The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was &#8220;asleep at the wheel&#8221; regarding how FTX Group and its subsidiaries met financial and corporate control requirements, Representative Pete Sessions<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsmax-tv\/petesessions-ftx-bankmanfried\/2022\/12\/17\/id\/1100912\/\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/www-newsmax-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/www.newsmax.com\/amp\/newsmax-tv\/petesessions-ftx-bankmanfried\/2022\/12\/17\/id\/1100912\/\"> said<\/a> in the Saturday Report on December 17.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to look at what the Securities and Exchange Commission was doing&#8221;, stated the Texas Congressman, adding that &#8220;the SEC was asleep at the wheel for these billions of dollars that we now find out about a year later.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The SEC filed charges against Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the former CEO of FTX, on Dec. 13, claiming that Bankman-Fried violated the anti-fraud provisions of the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. In the complaint, the SEC requests an injunction to prohibit Bankman-Fried from participating in the issuance, purchase, offer, or sale of any securities except for his own account.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: Democrats to reportedly return over $1M of SBF&#8217;s funding to FTX victims<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SEC Chair Gary Gensler said Bankman-Fried &#8220;built a house of cards on a foundation of deception while telling investors that it was one of the safest buildings in crypto.&#8221; The charges came a day after his arrest by Bahamian authorities at the request of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Representative Sessions also noted that a year ago, Bankman-Fried testified at a congressional committee hearing, where he was asked about the need for regulatory oversight of cryptocurrencies. Bankman-Fried replied, &#8220;it&#8217;s just a matter of transparency&#8221;, according to Sessions. <\/p>\n<p>The Congressman also noted that Bankman-Fried had &#8220;full access to members of Congress and the U.S. Senate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Session&#8217;s comments follow those of Senator Tom Emmer, who criticized Gensler for his flawed \u201ccrypto information-gathering efforts,\u201d calling on him to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear before Congress to explain \u201cregulatory failures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emmer also outlined that Gensler hasn\u2019t appeared before the House Committee on Financial Services since October 2021, leaving crypto <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> to fill the void for the SEC\u2019s failures in investigating.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"consulting_newsletter\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
