Democrats lost the House majority but did much better than expected, ensuring the GOP\u2019s majority in the next Congress will be slim.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The successes have strengthened Biden\u2019s standing ahead of a widely expected 2024 reelection bid.<\/p>\n<p>Talk of challenges to Biden has quieted, and the two Democratic leaders of Congress \u2014 outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) \u2014 are enthusiastically calling this week for the 80-year-old to seek a second term.<\/p>\n<p>In another piece of good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for Biden, his old rival former President Trump is stumbling through controversy after controversy at the outset of his own run for the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s troubles have exposed the deep divides within the GOP over its future, raising serious questions about the Republican Party\u2019s ability to win a national election.<\/p>\n<p>Yet for all the good news for Biden, many Democrats don\u2019t want to see him run for a second term.<\/p>\n<p>A CNN poll this week showed that 59 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents want a new candidate to be their nominee in 2024.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>It\u2019s a confusing picture for the White House and Democrats more <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden\u2019s standing with Democrats is a riddle wr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed in an enigma,\u201d said Brad Bannon, a Democratic strategist. \u201cHe is very popular with Democrats and is well positioned to win the party\u2019s nomination in 2024, but most of the party faithful don\u2019t want him to run again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CNN poll does not look like an anomaly.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>A week earlier, a CNBC poll found that 57 percent of Democrats said Biden shouldn\u2019t launch another presidential bid. The same poll showed that 70 percent of all respondents shared that sentiment \u2014 including 66 percent of independents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>None of this necessarily makes Biden a weak candidate in 2024, but it also doesn\u2019t suggest he\u2019s a particularly strong candidate.<\/p>\n<p>It does underline the sense that Biden won in 2020 by getting Democrats out to vote against Trump, and not because the party faithful was particularly inspired by their own candidate.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the conundrum we face,\u201d said one Democratic Party strategist. \u201cBecause if not Biden, then who? And what if there\u2019s an enthusiasm gap with the President?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s age is seen as a big reason for the polls showing many Democrats don\u2019t want him to run for a second term.<\/p>\n<p>Biden turned 80 last month and would be 86 at the end of a second term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoters can both like and respect him and still wish there was a younger version of him available,\u201d a second Democratic strategist said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the midterm wins, Biden has pulled together a string of legislative victories this year, including the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a> Act, which boosted domestic production of semiconductors, along with a smaller gun control measure that expanded background checks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of those bills did not go as far as liberals had hoped, though they were real achievements in a Congress where Democrats held a slim majority in the House and had the Senate majority only because of Vice President Harris\u2019s tiebreaking vote.<\/p>\n<p>Biden took a victory lap this week after a consumer price index report showed inflation easing for the fifth straight month \u2014 economic news he hopes will carry him forward. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a world where inflation is rising in double digits in many major economies around the world, inflation is coming down in America,\u201d Biden said at the White House on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That same day, the president also signed same-sex marriage legislation into law at a White House ceremony before a crowd of thousands of supporters.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Biden\u2019s first term has had its up and downs, and the doubts surrounding Biden were widespread among Democratic officials over the summer. But a number of strategists said they think the political class is feeling better about the president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t get that sense so much anymore,\u201d Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko said of the doubts about Biden. \u201cAnyone who doesn\u2019t think there\u2019s been a shift over the last 30 days hasn\u2019t been paying attention to his latest electoral and legislative victories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic strategist Zac Petkanas, who worked as director of rapid response for Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign, poured cold water on the idea of a serious primary challenger to Biden \u2014 something that felt more real before the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no doubt he would win hands down if there was a competitive Democratic primary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Still, Democrats privately admit that Biden\u2019s age will continue to be an issue for prospective voters as they look ahead to the upcoming election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s old. There\u2019s no denying it,\u201d the first strategist said. \u201cThat may be a huge factor in two years. Honestly, it\u2019s too soon to say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Publicly, other Democrats say they don\u2019t think Biden\u2019s age will be that much of an issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a new piece of information that the president is of advanced age,\u201d said Democratic strategist Joel Payne. \u201cThe fact that there has been so much political discourse and discussion around this probably serves as a benefit because all of the public discussion neutralizes the harm since it\u2019s not a new data point.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
