The most powerful people in sports media are the heads of the leagues and the networks, so there is no <strong>Adam Silver<\/strong> or <strong>Roger Goodell<\/strong>. This is just based on: \u201cWho had the most powerful 2022?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>There is no formula.<\/strong> This is my opinion, though I consulted with people I trust.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Here\u2019s the most important one:<\/strong> <strong>Anyone in the business who complains about where they were ranked or where their boss was ranked, it will be on the record.<\/strong> I don\u2019t want to hear it, but if you insist, I\u2019m reprinting what you say.<\/p>\n<p>And without further adieu, here are the 25 most powerful people in sports media for 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Joe_Buck_ESPN_Monday_Night_Football_play-by-play\"><\/span>1. And here\u2019s the kicker: Buck\u2019s reduced schedule will probably bring him more popularity the same way it has aided <strong>Al Michaels <\/strong>with his less-is-more <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach in the second half of his career.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Eric_Shanks_Fox_Sports_CEO\"><\/span>2. Eric Shanks, Fox Sports CEO<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At the moment, Shanks\u2019 and Fox Sports\u2019 decision to pass on entering the subscription streaming jungle looks as if it could be one of the great ones in sports media history. At least in the near term.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, Fox owned the Big Ten talks, and had the World Cup, the World <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Series<\/a> and the forthcoming Super Bowl. Plus, Shanks receives points here for doing something he didn\u2019t have to do \u2014 letting Buck go to ESPN. It was the human thing to do, even if Buck had one more year on his deal.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Tom_Brady_Buccaneers_quarterback\"><\/span>3. Tom Brady, Buccaneers quarterback<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As we reported the day of the deal, Brady received a 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox Sports. Lachlan Murdoch, the executive chairman of Fox, would later term the number \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=M6MB8XPTasg\">directionally right<\/a>.\u201d Now the question is what direction will Brady go. Will he continue to play? Go into the booth? Take a year off? However you look at it, Brady is a media power player.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Jimmy_Pitaro_chairman_of_ESPN\"><\/span>4. Pitaro will add MNF flex scheduling next year. ESPN has gone all-in on streaming \u2014 without half-measures, which is the right approach if you are going for it \u2014 while it still rates really well on cable. Plus, Pitaro extended his deal with Omaha Productions\u2019 Manningcast that, among other things, got ESPN mentioned on \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d in a good way.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Marie_Donoghue_Amazon_Vice_President_of_Global_Sports_Video\"><\/span>5. Marie Donoghue, Amazon Vice President of Global Sports Video<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Donoghue sold her bosses on the idea of Amazon obtaining the rights to broadcast the NFL on Thursday nights. Amazon Prime Video having an exclusive NFL package is a historic moment for sports media as a new era began this year. She and Jay Marine, who is Amazon\u2019s Prime Video\u2019s Global Head of Sports, continue to strengthen their relationship with the NBA through a variety of deals. This is the exact playbook they used prior to Amazon striking a $1 billion-plus-per-year deal with the NFL. The NBA rights are up after the 2024-25 season. Everybody paying attention?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Charles_Barkley_TNT_analyst\"><\/span>6. Charles Barkley, TNT analyst<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Barkley is the greatest studio analyst in history. I don\u2019t think there is much of an argument. I\u2019m not even sure who would be second. With that, Warner Bros. Discovery ripped up the final three years of its deal with Barkley, and he went from $10 million a year to likely in the Tony Romo neighborhood of $18M per on a new 10-year agreement. Though there is a question of whether TNT and its parent company, WBD, keep the NBA, it\u2019s a smart move to show up to negotiations with Barkley and the rest of the iconic \u201cInside the NBA\u201d crew in tow.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Stephen_A_Smith_ESPN_personality\"><\/span>7. Stephen A. Smith, ESPN personality<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Smith just did his thing this year, but again \u2014 pay attention, folks \u2014 he is building something. Not only is he ubiquitous on ESPN, he started a podcast with new episodes three times a week. It seems pretty clear Smith, 55, is trying to position himself to replace <strong>Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong> in late night if Kimmel walks away in three years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/stephe-a-smith.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Stephen A. Peyton Manning, Omaha Productions founder<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This is what you have to like about Manning: Yes, he has a team around him, but he is really involved in his company, chiming in on matters large and small, according to people who work with him. Omaha Productions is a young company, but it already means something. Be it bringing in Buck for a golf alt-cast or <strong>Pat McAfee<\/strong> for college football or Stephen A. on basketball, if Peyton calls, everyone picks up. He is a <strong>Mariano Rivera<\/strong>-type closer.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9_Pat_McAfee_YouTube_host_ESPN_College_GameDay_panelist\"><\/span><strong>9. Pat McAfee, YouTube host, ESPN College GameDay panelist<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>McAfee is his own conglomerate, which is pretty incredible. At the end of 2021, he signed for $30 million-plus per year with FanDuel, which didn\u2019t even preclude him from taking in other advertising money for his YouTube show. Only Barkley is in the above group with really no NFL tie.<\/p>\n<p>It can be argued that no one has decided the future of media \u2014 not just sports \u2014 more than Rolapp.<\/p>\n<p>Rolapp made deals with CBS, NBC, Fox and ESPN that will effectively have us watching games the same way on Sundays and Mondays into the 2030s.
