To restore order, taxpayers should demand the administration detain all illegal entrants \u2014 as the law already requires \u2014 and Congress pay for detention beds, not border-related handouts to municipalities and migrants themselves.<\/p>\n<p>In the decade between\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/assets\/documents\/2021-Aug\/U.S.%20Border%20Patrol%20Monthly%20Encounters%20%28FY%202000%20-%20FY%202020%29%20%28508%29.pdf\">fiscal year 2011<\/a>\u00a0and FY 2020, agents at the southwest border <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>rehended 4.27 million illegal migrants \u2014 1,170 per day, on average. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/nationwide-encounters\">Under Biden<\/a>, Border Patrol has apprehended more than 3.785 million migrants at the US-Mexico line \u2014 5,933 per day, or roughly\u00a0six times Border Patrol\u2019s capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Of all the Trump-era border policies that Biden eliminated, the most prominent and effective was the Migrant Protection Protocols (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2019\/01\/24\/migrant-protection-protocols\">MPP<\/a>), better known as \u201cRemain in Mexico.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-006.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"migrants\" class=\"wp-image-25071923\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-006.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-006.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-006.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Title 42 is coming to an end, making many leaders in asylum cities nervous of what is to come.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">James Keivom<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Department of Homeland Security determined in an\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/assessment_of_the_migrant_protection_protocols_mpp.pdf\">October 2019<\/a>\u00a0assessment that MPP was \u201can indispensable tool in addressing the ongoing crisis at\u201d the border and \u201crestoring integrity to the immigration system.\u201d Nonetheless, Biden\u2019s Department of Justice has been fighting\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/59815977\/state-of-texas-v-joseph-r-biden\/\">efforts<\/a>\u00a0by states affected by illegal immigration to force DHS to reimplement Remain in Mexico since April 2021.<\/p>\n<p>A federal district court\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.txnd.346680\/gov.uscourts.txnd.346680.178.0_3.pdf\">recently granted<\/a>\u00a0those states\u2019 request to stay DHS\u2019s latest\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-01\/21_1029_mpp-termination-memo.pdf\">attempt<\/a>\u00a0at ending MPP, but courts can\u2019t force Biden to send any migrant back across the border.<\/p>\n<p>Title 42 was the only Trump-era border policy Biden maintained, likely because it was based on pandemic emergency\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aspr.hhs.gov\/legal\/PHE\/Pages\/covid19-13Oct2022.aspx\">orders<\/a>\u00a0the administration is using to maintain Medicaid\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commonwealthfund.org\/blog\/2022\/when-medicaid-pandemic-continuous-enrollment-guarantee-unwinds\">expansions<\/a>\u00a0and forgive\u00a0student-loan debt. Nevertheless, Biden tried to end Title 42 effective\u00a0May 23, only to be prevented from doing so by a federal court in Louisiana\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.lawd.188754\/gov.uscourts.lawd.188754.91.0_2.pdf\">May 20<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-002.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"migrants\" class=\"wp-image-25071924\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-002.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-002.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-002.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Agents at the southwest border apprehended 4.27 million illegal migrants between 2011-2020.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">James Keivom<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Even while the administration was appealing that order, it was also <em>defending<\/em> Title 42 in a suit migrants and advocates brought in DC federal court. In\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.225870\/gov.uscourts.dcd.225870.165.0_4.pdf\">November<\/a>, the judge in that case vacated Title 42, and it was slated <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/29099593\/huisha-huisha-v-gaynor\/?page=2\">to end<\/a> Wednesday until Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts halted that Monday.<\/p>\n<p>If Title 42 does end, up to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gop-continues-sound-alarm-title-42-biden-admin-anticipates-migrant-surge\">14,000 migrants<\/a>\u00a0per day will pour illegally across the southwest border, overwhelming already-overworked agents and swamping DHS processing facilities.<\/p>\n<p>DHS recently released an\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-12\/22_1213_plcy_update-sw-border-security-preparedness.pdf\">update<\/a>\u00a0on its plans to handle that surge, which largely entail sending additional resources to release migrants into the United States more quickly.<\/p>\n<p>That will devastate border communities (the\u00a0Democrat-controlled El Paso, Texas, declared a state of emergency Saturday) and further drain resources in cities where those migrants are headed.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-008.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"migrants clothes\" class=\"wp-image-25071929\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-008.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-008.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-008.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Title 42 was the only Trump-era border policy Biden maintained.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">James Keivom<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of those is New York City, where Mayor Eric Adams (D) is calling for more federal aid (he\u2019s already asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency for\u00a0$1 billion, which exceeds the administration\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Arthur\/Biden-Seeking-Billions-Pay-His-Border-Disaster\">recent congressional request<\/a>\u00a0for migrant assistance by $180 million) even while\u00a0warning\u00a0about a deluge of new arrivals if Title 42 ends.<\/p>\n<p>More resources are needed to address Biden\u2019s border fiasco, but that money should go to detention, not handouts to cities and migrants.<\/p>\n<p>Congress\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Arthur\/DHS-Cant-Just-Release-Illegal-Migrants-Border\">requires<\/a>\u00a0DHS to detain illegal entrants while they\u2019re in the asylum process, and the administration\u2019s flouting of that mandate has driven the border surge. Regardless of whatever other reasons they have for entering illegally, every migrant comes to live and work here, and if he or she can\u2019t do so until granted asylum, few will pay thousands in smuggling fees to make the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-001.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"migrants\" class=\"wp-image-25071930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-001.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-001.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/restore-order-border-dems-001.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>If Title 42 does end, up to\u00a014,000 migrants\u00a0per day will pour illegally across the southwest border.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">James Keivom<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Like detention, Remain in Mexico dissuaded illegal migrants from entering illegally and filing fraudulent claims simply to live and work here \u2014 and it was created because congressional Democrats (and more than a few Republicans) wouldn\u2019t provide the funding DHS needed to satisfy Congress\u2019 detention mandate.<\/p>\n<p>And MPP worked: Migrants with bogus asylum claims stopped coming and went home once they realized those claims no longer constituted a \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/assessment_of_the_migrant_protection_protocols_mpp.pdf\">free ticket<\/a>\u201d into this country.<\/p>\n<p>Complaints that migrant detention isn\u2019t \u201chumane\u201d are uninformed \u2014 and there\u2019s little humanity in Biden\u2019s border policies. A\u00a0record number\u00a0of migrants died in FY 2022 entering illegally, even while Border Patrol searches and rescues nearly\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/cbp-enforcement-statistics\">doubled<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s just on this side of the border. A 2019 bipartisan federal\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/19_0416_hsac-emergency-interim-report.pdf\">report<\/a>\u00a0detailed the horrors (rape, robbery, kidnapping, etc.) to which migrants are subjected on the trip north. If anything, things have only gotten worse since then.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s response to the\u00a0border disaster he\u2019s created\u00a0is to spend more money funneling more migrants into the country. That waste of taxpayer dollars will just exacerbate the problem by encouraging more aliens to enter illegally.
