At the time, BTC\/USD traded at just over $40,000.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to year-end, and NVT is flashing a warning. Despite Bitcoin being worth less than 50% of its April levels, network volume has declined to such an extent that even the current $16,800 valuation might not last.<\/p>\n<p>As Woo <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/charts.woobull.com\/bitcoin-nvt-ratio\/\">explained<\/a> in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/charts.woobull.com\/bitcoin-nvt-ratio\/\">description<\/a> of NVT ratio on his analytics site:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen Bitcoin\u2019s NVT is high, it indicates that its network valuation is outs<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>ping the value being transmitted on its payment network, this can happen when the network is in high growth and investors are valuing it as a high return investment, or alternatively when the price is in an unsustainable bubble.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-12\/7156e580-e744-446b-ad5a-89d67d0cebe7.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Bitcoin NVT signal annotated chart. As noted by various analysts, including Woo, the constantly changing nature of the Bitcoin network means that transactions are increasingly moving off-chain.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related:\u00a0Bitcoin price fails to retake $17K with market \u2018not prepared\u2019 for dip<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Together with other phenomena, this impacts on-chain transaction data to the extent that NVT may produce an overly bearish picture of value-to-transactions.<\/p>\n<p>This is addressed with an addition to the indicator called dynamic range NVT (DRNVT). Created by Charles Edwards, CEO of asset manager Capriole, DRNVT uses standard deviations to measure NVT divergence from the mean. It also supplies value zones for easier determination of entry points based on its readings.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, DRNVT is in that value zone, data from TradingView shows \u2014 a key contrast to the standard model.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NVT Signal with a dynamic fair value range must be used with care,\u201d Edwards nonetheless <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/unconfiscatable\/dynamic-range-nvt-signal-for-bitcoin-valuation-400721abebe7\">cautioned<\/a> in an introduction to the indicator in 2019:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAs with all markets, an asset can remain \u2018expensive\u2019 or \u2018cheap\u2019 for extended periods or time and continue to get even more expensive or cheaper.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-12\/7f7c985e-c66f-4717-9bdc-fdbe8ab10ffd.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>BTC\/USD 1-day candle chart (Bitstamp) with dynamic range NVT signal.
