Jackson) and explained how the biggest issue for her during filming was pace. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cQuentin told me that Sam[uel L. Jackson] had a metronome-like quality that\u2019s really fast, but that I\u2019d have to slow down for Robert [Forster],\u201d she said. \u201cHe warned me that not all actors can do that, so I had to learn.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In the film, Grier\u2019s character executes a plan to escape with the smuggled cash, going against Jackson\u2019s Ordell and enlisting help from bail bondsman Max Cherry (the late Forster). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cQuentin said to slow my pace down to avoid revealing that I\u2019m planning a scheme,\u201d Grier said. \u201cMax knows people inside and out, and knows when they\u2019re fooling him \u2014 he can smell me if I\u2019m lying. But I also need him, so it\u2019s not cut-and-dried. That\u2019s why you\u2019re exhausted when you work with Quentin Tarantino and his characters!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    When Grier learned that Tarantino crafted the leading character of the film with the actress in mind, Grier admitted to thinking she was \u201cin trouble\u201d because she knew she\u2019d have to \u201cwork really hard,\u201d as she didn\u2019t want to be fired. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    After reading the\u00a0<em>Jackie Brown\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> for the first time, which was an adaptation of Elmore Leonard\u2019s crime thriller\u00a0<em>Rum Punch,\u00a0<\/em>Grier explained that there was a misunderstanding on who would reach out about the project. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cHe was waiting for me to call him, and I was waiting for him to call me,\u201d she remembered of Tarantino. \u201cHe was getting worried, and told [producer] Lawrence Bender, \u2018What if she doesn\u2019t like it? We don\u2019t have anyone else!\u2019 He was concerned, and rightfully so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    After a few weeks, Grier realized the reason Tarantino didn\u2019t contact her was because he had actually left her a note to call him: \u201cI read the note he had written on the back of the script and realized I was supposed to have called him weeks ago! I figured that he had probably recast the role, but I called him and said, \u2018I love the script. What character am I?\u2019 And he said, \u2018You\u2019re Jackie Brown.&#8217;\u201d Grier said the director knew so much about her personally that he \u201cbrought a lot to that script for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Jackie Brown<\/em> marked Grier\u2019s first major leading role at the time since starring in blaxploitation films in the \u201970s including <em>Foxy<\/em> <em>Brown<\/em> and <em>Coffy<\/em>. Forster earned a nomination for the\u00a0Academy Award for best supporting actor,\u00a0with both Grier and Jackson also nominated for Golden Globes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Amid the film\u2019s 25th anniversary on Dec. 25, Grier described working on the film as a \u201cmaster class in filmmaking\u201d and reignited her interest for directing. \u201cQuentin shared a lot with me that I\u2019m going to be applying to my own work,\u201d Grier said, also sharing that she has completed a script for a World War II film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    During an interview on Bill Maher\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=j-kkcREqFWU&amp;t=5038s\"><em>Club Random<\/em> podcast<\/a>, Tarantino also reflected on the film and shared a time when a film financier questioned the director on his <em>Jackie Brown<\/em> casting decision, asking whether he wished he cast \u201cbigger stars\u201d instead. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cAnd I go, \u2018Well, we made $30 million dollars with a movie starring Pam Grier and Robert Forster. I thought that was actually pretty fucking good,&#8217;\u201d Tarantino recalled. \u201cHis point, though, he goes, \u2018That\u2019s all you\u2019 \u2014 well, great! I can make a movie with them, and it can do well because I made it? That\u2019s the reason to be fucking famous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    When Maher questioned what \u201cstars of the day\u201d in 1997 could he have cast instead, Tarantino listed Angela Bassett and Robert De Niro (De Niro was ultimately cast in the supporting role of Louis Gara).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Should a prequel to <em>Jackie Brown <\/em>ever come to fruition, Grier said that though the casting choice would ultimately be up to the director, she\u2019d prefer someone who embodies the \u201cblueprint\u201d of the character.
