\n Terry McAuliffe, prominent Democrat and Joe Biden supporter, told a meeting of Virginia Democrats that the former vice president should remain in his Delaware home\u2019s basement for the duration of the 2020 presidential campaign, according to a report on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

McAuliffe, who was Hillary Clinton\u2019s campaign chairman in 2016, spoke via Zoom to a videoconference of the Norfolk City Democratic Committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople say all the time, \u2018Oh, we got to get the vice president out of the basement,’\u201d McAuliffe told the \u201cmonthly breakfast,\u201d Fox News<\/a> reported, citing a copy of the video it obtained. \u201cHe\u2019s fine in the basement. Two people see him a day: his two body people. That\u2019s it. Let Trump keep doing what Trump\u2019s doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Democratic governor of Virginia told the group that Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, will find it difficult to find a platform to compete with President Trump who can use White House\u2019s bully pulpit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard for the vice president to break through,\u201d McAuliffe said. \u201cYou\u2019ve got the COVID crisis. He\u2019s not a governor, doesn\u2019t have the National Guard. He\u2019s not the president, doesn\u2019t have the briefing room. He needs to come out strategically. And when he says something like he did on race relations two days ago, it needs to have a big impact \u2013 thoughtful, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re preferring that he actually do at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden, who has been campaigning from the basement of his Wilmington home because of the coronavirus pandemic, has spoken about George Floyd\u2019s death and racial issues several times. Most notably, he delivered remarks via video message at George Floyd\u2019s funeral on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

But he has rarely ventured outside of the confines of his home, other than to give a speech in Philadelphia last week and to travel<\/a> to Houston to meet with Floyd\u2019s family on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

He has given interviews and app<\/a>eared on late-night talk shows from the studio built in his basement, but they\u2019ve also caused some cringeworthy moments.<\/p>\n

Last month during a radio interview with Charlamagne tha God, Biden suggested that African-Americans \u201cain\u2019t black\u201d if they vote for Trump in November.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
