And I was in a situation where, at the end, I had the unique experience of finding out that everything I thought was going on was in fact going on. So I had this kind of springboard for feeling and recovery that a lot of people don\u2019t get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Now, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2022-12-29\/anna-kendrick-alice-darling-emotional-abuse?utm_id=81349&amp;sfmc_id=744927\">speaking to the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a>, Kendrick, who executive produces the Lionsgate film in addition to starring in it, opened up further about how her past relationship affected her portrayal in the film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In particular, it was important to Kendrick that the abuse onscreen not be physical, hoping to provide a more nuanced portrayal of an abusive relationship, something she hadn\u2019t seen in many films, making her wonder if what was h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening to her was indeed abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She said, \u201cThat was a big part of my problem. \u2018Well he never hit me, and I\u2019m not really afraid that he\u2019s going to hit me. How do I discern between normal conflict and abuse? Why is my body in so much fear all of the time? Why do I wake up feeling like he\u2019s in bed next to me and wondering, \u2018OK, do I have 30 seconds before I start performing or \u2026 ?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The relationship even made her doubt her own experience, she said: \u201cHe\u2019s so convinced that I am a monster that I can\u2019t see how I am not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    And she doesn\u2019t necessarily think the abuse could have turned physical.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cYou don\u2019t have to believe that it might get physical for you to feel like you\u2019re allowed to leave, that you deserve to be treated better, deserve to feel safe,\u201d she told the <em>LA Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Kendrick added that she \u201crelated to Alice\u2019s obsessive mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She told the<em> Times<\/em> that she recalled writing in her journal, \u201cI\u2019m just going to try a little harder. If I could just get it right, if I could make it perfect, if I could just say it in the perfect way, I\u2019ll be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cIt\u2019s this totally irrational hope that if I\u2019m just a little bit better, I\u2019ll be safe. It\u2019s like having a pair of pliers on your heart,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She also had a strong feeling about how to play a key scene in the film as her friends try to take Alice away from her abusive boyfriend Simon (Charlie Carrick). Specifically, she makes eye contact with her friend Sophie (Wunmi Mosaku) while not looking at Simon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cSophie\u2019s actions have just knocked me onto a tightrope of willingness,\u201d Kendrick told the <em>Times<\/em> of what her character is feeling in that moment. \u201cWhich was the phrase I used on that day, that I knew made me sound completely f\u2014 insane. I was like, \u2018If I break eye contact with her, I will fall off the tightrope. This is a survival technique.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    As in the film, in which Alice starts to regain her sense of self and gets perspective on her abusive boyfriend while on vacation with friends, it was friendship that helped bring her back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cThat was the first thing that made me drop back into my body in a year and a half; somebody just doing the one thing he couldn\u2019t do, which was telling me, \u2018You\u2019re right, I\u2019m sorry, you\u2019re not crazy.\u2019 I\u2019m so grateful to that person and the gift [they] gave me,\u201d Kendrick said. \u201cI don\u2019t know how to describe it other than feeling like one of those dorky CGI ghosts in \u201990s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> that suddenly enter back into your body, and you wake up, and you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh my God, I\u2019m here. Oh! I\u2019m hungry for the first time in forever.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    And in the film and with her own recovery, she had to trust that she was the evidence of abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cI was begging Mary, \u2018Can Alice be the evidence?\u2019\u201d Kendrick said. \u201cBecause not only do I want us to not make a movie that\u2019s already been made, but personally, I need to trust that I\u2019m the evidence. Part of it was like, if you can\u2019t trust Alice, then I can\u2019t trust myself. So it was really, really important that the movie relied so heavily on just staying with Alice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She added of her own experience, \u201cTo sit in grief and to believe my own body has been so much harder, but so much more rewarding.
