It does. Doe Fund graduates are less likely to go back to jail.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll donate to Student Sponsor Partners, which helps at-risk kids escape bad \u201cpublic (government-run)\u201d schools.<\/p>\n<p>SSP sends the kids to Catholic schools. I\u2019m not Catholic, but I donate because the Catholic schools do better at half the cost. Thousands of families break the cycle of poverty thanks to SSP.<\/p>\n<p>When I was young, I assumed government would lift people out of poverty. \u201cGovernment programs, a \u2018war on poverty\u2019 will give a leg up to the poor,\u201d said my Princeton professors. I believed. But then I watched the programs fail.<\/p>\n<p>Now I understand that government actions do as much harm as good. Sometimes, much more harm.<\/p>\n<p>Take that \u201cwar on poverty.\u201d When it began, Americans were lifting themselves out of poverty. Year by year, the number of families below the poverty line decreased.<\/p>\n<p>Then came our government bureaucrats with their rules and programs. The poverty rate dropped for the first seven years of the \u201cwar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But then progress stopped. Government\u2019s handouts encouraged people to become <em>dependent<\/em> on handouts.<\/p>\n<p>Learned helplessness, it\u2019s called.<\/p>\n<p>Welfare <em>created<\/em> an \u201cunderclass,\u201d generations of people who don\u2019t work. They\u2019d lose benefits if they do.<\/p>\n<p>Generations of people bear children but don\u2019t marry. They\u2019d lose benefits if they do.<\/p>\n<p>Government taught people to be passive. This passivity was something new and bad.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why charity is better. Charity workers can make judgments about who needs help and who needs a push.<\/p>\n<p>Not all charities do good. Some are as bad as government. But when they are well-run, charities encourage <em>independence<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>They also don\u2019t <em>force<\/em> us to give them money.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s an even better way to help people: capitalism. Not that I\u2019ll convince most people.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Elizabeth Warren complained that Elon Musk should \u201cpay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Freeloading? I like Musk\u2019s answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will pay more taxes than any American in history ($11 billion that year) . . . Don\u2019t spend it all at once . . . oh, wait, you did already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They sure did. The feds burn through $11 billion every 15 hours. Now Republicans and Democrats will spend even <em>more<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Musk, meanwhile, is trying to make <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> profitable. Some of his ideas are bad. Some will fail. But at least Musk spends his own money, or money people willingly loan him.<\/p>\n<p>Warren and her fellow politicians take money from us by force.<\/p>\n<p>I prefer Musk\u2019s way.<\/p>\n<p>Billionaires sometimes do nasty things. Facebook\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg censors truthful reporting. Zuckerberg and Amazon\u2019s Jeff Bezos sneakily lobby for regulations (like a higher minimum wage) that give them advantages over their competitors. Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey bought gross polluting yachts.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s their own money. They are free to spend it on whatever they want. Most do better things with it than government would.<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg invented better ways to connect with people. Bezos makes shopping easier and cheaper. If they don\u2019t spend well, they dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear.<\/p>\n<p>Government never disappears. When politicians fail, they force us to give them more of our money so they can do it again.<\/p>\n<p>People hate capitalists, but it\u2019s the capitalists who create the jobs, lift people out of poverty and feed the world.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a reporter, not an entrepreneur. I\u2019m not likely to invent something new and useful. So today, I\u2019ll give money to charity.<\/p>\n<p>It makes me feel good.<\/p>\n<p>But the world benefits more from people like Musk \u2014 and the millions of entrepreneurs who try new things.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
