They hoped to ask for asylum.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the federal policy that has allowed the US Border Patrol to keep out asylum-seeking migrants, like Venezuelans, was extended. Waiting in Mexico was not an option, they claimed. <\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday night, the trio snuck into the US.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in El Paso on Thursday, Garcia said she is eager to work to send money back to her three daughters, ages 2, 6 and 9, she left behind in Venezuela. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have thought \u2026 we may get deported while traveling, but we have to try,\u201d the migrant mom said. \u201cWe decided to make the sacrifice for them so they didn\u2019t have to live through this, because it hasn\u2019t been easy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSanta didn\u2019t come this year. The girls are afraid we left them behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three have $50 saved up and are trying to collect more money for bus fare to either Dallas or Denver. While the city has funding to house legally admitted asylum seekers, undocumented migrants, like Garcia, her hubby and Rodriguez, have nowhere to go.<\/p>\n<p>Migrants who have not been vetted by federal authorities have now started sleeping in the streets of downtown El Paso, mixed in with legal migrants amid freezing temperatures with only blankets for warmth.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday night, Garcia, her husband and Rodriguez slept in the rain on the cold streets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they continue to get in undetected, we\u2019re going to continue to have this population grow within this community,\u201d said D\u2019Agostino. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/migrants-border-03-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"migrants\" class=\"wp-image-25205124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/migrants-border-03-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/migrants-border-03-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/migrants-border-03-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The number of illegal immigrants in El Paso will increase with Title 42 in place.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">James Keivom for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Only the Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have the legal authority to take those illegal immigrants into custody, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re reaching out with all our partners, our federal partners, because at the end of the day is a process, a process that everyone needs to follow and we really need to make this sustainable for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Border Patrol told The Post it\u2019s aware of the situation, citing the arrest of illegal immigrants riding on commercial buses north of El Paso.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USBPChiefEPT\/status\/1605642333617213441?s=20&amp;t=nNkPBbWIrdVEj3x_IA9fzQ\">60 illegal immigrants<\/a> who had made their way onto three buses \u2014 blending in with legal migrants \u2014 but were stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint north of El Paso where vehicles are inspected.<\/p>\n<p>The illegal migrants were sorted out and detained, Border Patrol officials said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Additional reporting by David Meyer<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
