\u201cLord, I love you,\u201d according to his longtime secretary. <\/p>\n<p>Archbishop Georg Gaenswein quoted a nurse who was helping the 95-year-old and heard the words shortly before his death on New Year\u2019s Eve. <\/p>\n<p>The nurse recalled Benedict making the short statement at about 3 a.m. before he died later that morning, Gaenswein said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBenedict XVI, with a faint voice but in a very distinct way, said in Italian, \u2018Lord, I love you,\u2019\u201d Gaenswein told the Vatican\u2019s official <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t there in that moment, but the nurse a little later recounted it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were his last comprehensible words, because afterwards, he wasn\u2019t able to express himself any more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaenswin, a German prelate, lived in the Vatican monastery where Benedict resided after he retired from the post in 2013.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" reported that Pope Francis paid his respects right after Gaenswein called to inform him that Benedict had died a little after 9:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Francis prayed for Benedict\u2019s passage to heaven and expressed <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciation for his service as head of the Catholic Church that lasted eight years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we entrust to our Blessed Mother our beloved Pope coffin will be viewed for three days starting Monday with no fewer than 25,000 to 30,000 mourners expected that day, said Rome Prefect Bruno Frattasi, an Interior Ministry official to Italian state
