\n \u201cStranger Things\u201d star Natalia Dyer is calling out inapp<\/a>ropriate fandom.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old actress who plays Nancy Wheeler on the Netflix horror show defended her teen colleagues in a new interview with the Independent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI general<\/a>ly feel like, to me, it\u2019s over-sexualizing them,\u201d she said of the cast members, who play a squad of mystery-solving preteens in \u201980s-era Indiana. \u201cI feel protective over the younger kids even though they\u2019re not kids anymore, they\u2019re teens. They\u2019re all great people and all having to grow up in very crazy circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Star Millie Bobby Brown, 16, was listed on W Magazine\u2019s \u201cwhy TV is sexier than ever\u201d list when she was just 13 years old. Brown, who plays the main character Eleven on the show, has spoken out about her distaste for this kind of attention. Finn Wolfhard, who plays Dyer\u2019s character\u2019s younger brother Mike, has said that he\u2019s received sexual messages from adult fans since he was 14 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a private person, I just feel like, leave people alone \u2014 unless you\u2019re talking about their work or what they want to talk about. It\u2019s a very tricky and complex issue,\u201d Dyer said.<\/p>\n

The third season of the Netflix hit tackled some increasingly mature themes \u2014 including an uncomfortable romance between Wolfhard and Brown\u2019s characters. Co-star Sadie Sink said she felt \u201cstressed out\u201d by an unplanned kiss in the show\u2019s second season.<\/p>\n

The actress noted that this is not specific to her co-stars, but part of a larger problem. \u201c[Sexualizing young actors is] a cultural issue, there must be a bigger concept behind it as to why. Just let people be the people that they are, without any judgment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
