\n Mayor Bill De Blasio on Tuesday thanked Jerry Seinfeld for penning a passionate op-ed in defense of New York City in a response to, as the comedia<\/a>n put it, a \u201cputz\u201d who claimed the Big App<\/a>le was \u201cdead forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to take a moment to thank Jerry because this is what a true New Yorker does \u2014 stands and fights and works to make this place better no matter what\u2019s thrown at us,\u201d de Blasio said at his daily press briefing.<\/p>\n

Hizzoner directly quoted from Seinfeld\u2019s response to hedge-fund manager James Altucher, who wrote that New York City was damaged beyond repair.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will sure as hell be back because of all the real tough New Yorkers, who unlike you, loved it and understood it, stayed and rebuilt it,\u201d Seinfeld wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the vast majority of all of you out there because that\u2019s what we\u2019ve seen time and time again,\u201d de Blasio said.<\/p>\n

He then rattled off various crises the city has faced since the 1960s.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we went through 9\/11. People fought back. Hurricane Sandy. People fought back. Great recession. People fought back,\u201d he said. \u201cNew Yorkers fight back, that\u2019s what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo all the people who really love this place, to all the real New Yorkers of course we\u2019ll come back,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo thank you, Jerry, well said brother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Altucher on Monday fired back at Seinfeld, saying his op-ed was supported by facts.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
