Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ion pills and 1,958 pounds of fentanyl across the state, officials said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo put that into perspective, throughout 2022 we seized enough deadly doses of fentanyl in New York for more than three times the population of New York state,\u201d said Frank Tarentino, who heads the DEA\u2019s local office.<\/p>\n<p>The shocking year-end tally comes just days after The Post detailed the heartbreaking toll fentanyl has taken on New Yorkers over the last few years \u2014\u00a0with the drug accounting for more than 80% of the city\u2019s overdose deaths. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/flood-of-fentanyl-in-nyc-unlike-anything-law-enforcement-has-seen-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"The pills have been flooding the county with the DEA already seizing 379 million lethal doses of fentanyl this year \u2014 double the amount of last year.\" class=\"wp-image-25212957\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/flood-of-fentanyl-in-nyc-unlike-anything-law-enforcement-has-seen-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/flood-of-fentanyl-in-nyc-unlike-anything-law-enforcement-has-seen-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/flood-of-fentanyl-in-nyc-unlike-anything-law-enforcement-has-seen-2.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Across the country, the DEA has seized more than 50.6 million fake pills laced with fentanyl and over 10,000 pounds of the drug in powder form. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">DEA<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nearly one million of the fake pills, which authorities told The Post have become the latest trend on the street, were seized as part of cases handled by the New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor\u2019s Office \u2014 and marked a 425% increase over 2021, officials said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said the Big Apple\u2019s illegal drug trade is \u201csaturated\u201d with fentanyl.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven casual or occasional illegal drug use could be fatal, and with an explosion in counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, a single tablet purchased online or on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> could be deadly,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>There were more than 3,000 fatal overdoses  in New York City in the 12 months ending in July 2022 \u2014 8 in 10 of those caused by fentanyl, according to the latest federal data.<\/p>\n<p>The manmade drug is funneled into the US from the southern border, smuggled in by Mexican Cartels that source much of it from China. <\/p>\n<p>The synthetic opioid has made its way into the drug market disguised as prescription pills, such as Xanax or oxycodone, or laced into other drugs by dealers. <\/p>\n<p>Across the country, the DEA has seized more than 50.6 million fake pills laced with fentanyl and over 10,000 pounds of the drug in powder form.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
