Drink the expensive wine today. Use the fancy dishes every day. Buy fresh flowers and take that <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> you\u2019ve always wanted to take.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Some retirees are so caught up in the act of saving for retirement that they don\u2019t know how to celebrate or spend money once they\u2019ve finally retired.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cIt\u2019s a traumatic event for many that after 40 years of working, that this Friday I\u2019m not getting a paycheck,\u201d Ray Ferrara, executive chair at ProVise Management Group Inc. in Clearwater, Fla. \u201cWe have to help them realize that their paycheck now comes in the form of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> Security and their savings and investments.\u201d<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetPullQuote\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetPullQuote\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wsj-article-pullquote article__inset__pullquote \">\n<p class=\"pullquote-content article__inset__pullquote__quote\">\n        <span class=\"l-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--left\">\u201c<\/span> \u2018Think about what would give you pleasure and build it into your year. Don\u2019t delay.\u2019 <span class=\"r-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--right\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>        <small><br \/>\n          <span class=\"inset-author article__inset__pullquote__author\">\u2014 Nancy Schlossberg<\/span><br \/>\n        <\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       \u201cIt\u2019s a difficult thing for many people. We have to give people permission to spend their money,\u201d Ferrara said. \u201cClients don\u2019t outlive their money unless it\u2019s a health event or a family crisis. It\u2019s really about lifestyles changing and we all like our lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> As a financial planner, Ferrara often has to tell clients: \u201cYou have permission. It\u2019s OK to spend $30,000 to go on a 30-day cruise around the world. Nobody knows how many tomorrows we have,\u201d said Ferrara, who owns a boat named \u201cSomeday is Today.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s OK to spend that little extra to have a little extra fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ferrara urges retirees to check in with their financial advisers regularly to make sure they are on track, especially after 2022\u2019s turbulent markets.<\/p>\n<p>The spending doesn\u2019t have to be big or outlandish. It can be about bringing small doses of joy into your life.<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Schlossberg, a retirement speaker and author, once went to a dinner party on her birthday. She didn\u2019t tell anyone about the occasion, but she brought a small bottle of blowing bubbles for each guest and invited them to blow bubbles with her around the home\u2019s outdoor turtle pond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was ridiculous. It was fabulous,\u201d said Schlossberg, author of the book \u201cToo Young to be Old: Love, Learn, Work and Play as You Age.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can do things that aren\u2019t expensive. I, myself, need to spend more time playing. I\u2019ve always been working. I\u2019ve always been serious,\u201d said Schlossberg. \u201cBring pleasure into every day, not just for a big birthday or a big celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Schlossberg, 93, said she has very few regrets in her life, but one is not taking her family to the Gal\u00e1pagos Islands when she was a bit younger. \u201cIt\u2019s foolish and I\u2019m sorry I put it off. But the time I got around to it, it was just a little much of a trip at 93. Even eight years ago I could have done it more easily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no point to waiting. It doesn\u2019t need to be expensive. Think about what would give you pleasure and build it into your year. Don\u2019t delay,\u201d Schlossberg said. \u201cWhat are you waiting for? An illness? Seize the moment. Carpe diem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robert Laura, founder of RetirementProject.org and Retirement Coaches Association, said one of the biggest flaws of traditional retirement planning is the notion that you have 20, 30, or even 40 years in retirement to do whatever you want, whenever you want.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReality is, the only guarantee that comes with retirement is that at some point you will die. Now, on the surface, that sounds like a very negative way to look at and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach life in retirement. However, what if new, existing, or soon-to-be retirees use it to examine what they would regret if their retirement only lasted one year, five years or 10?\u201d Laura said.<\/p>\n<p>You have to develop a plan and take specific steps to identify a goal or target and start moving toward it, Laura said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a major difference between good intentions and being intentional. You may have the best intentions of taking a big family vacation, doing something special with the grandkids, or helping out on a mission trip or a natural disaster, but thinking about it won\u2019t be enough,\u201d Laura said.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Casey, managing partner of Retirement Wisdom in Princeton, N.J., and author of \u201cWin the Retirement <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a>: How to Outsmart the 9 Forces Trying to Steal Your Joy,\u201d recommends making a list of things that give you delight, and the things and circumstances that take joy away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to get to really know what gives you joy and get to know what steals it from you,\u201d said Casey. \u201cThirty years of going into an office every day can dull your sense of joy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFun and joy often don\u2019t involve money.
