One such design statement is the Stack, a brand-new 37-storey tower in the heart of Vancouver\u2019s business district. Upon its completion at the tail end of 2022, it will become the tallest commercial building in the city.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Vancouver\u2019s Department of Planning, Urban Design and Sustainability demands that any proposals for buildings surpassing 400 feet must demonstrate design merit. (The Stack tops out at 530.) In other words, if a building <span class=\"s2\">is going to take up a ton of space in the downtown sky<\/span>line, it better be pretty. \u201cThe Stack had to earn the extra height,\u201d says James Cheng, architect at Vancouver\u2019s James K.M. Cheng Architects, the tower\u2019s parent firm.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1242801\" style=\"width: 1930px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-sizes=\"auto\" class=\"wp-image-1242801 size-full lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.macleans.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/foot-path.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1200\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Its interior may be all business, but the Stack\u2019s ground-level park\u2014complete with a pedestrian footpath, eye-catching art and a healthy helping of trees\u2014is also designed for the public to enjoy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\">Shipping delays on glazing materials from Kamloops <span class=\"s3\">and stone <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ling up the California coast pushed ten<\/span><span class=\"s2\">ants\u2019<\/span> official move-in dates back by a few months. But now that the glass-coated edifice has taken its final form, it\u2019s easy to see how it got its name. Four \u201cboxes,\u201d each containing 10 floors or less, are stacked vertically. No standard cubicles, but plenty of cubes.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Each box has its own unique layout: the ground-floor box, which features soaring ceilings and functioning windows, is a draw for big-thinking tech firms; box two has multiple open-air decks; and box three is set slightly askew for a Jenga-esque element of visual intrigue. Box four, with its harbourside views, is where any future patio parties will pop off.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1242800\" style=\"width: 1930px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-sizes=\"auto\" class=\"wp-image-1242800 size-full lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.macleans.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/terrace.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1164\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A splashy rooftop terrace, which tops the Stack\u2019s fourth box, offers stunning views of the North Shore mountains\u2014not a bad backdrop for company barbecues. \u201cYou can have a real party up there,\u201d Cheng says. \u201cIt\u2019s the best view in Vancouver.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Stack\u2019s developers have also built an impressive suite of amenities. Nook, an Italian restaurant, takes up 5,000 square feet on the first floor. Elsewhere in the building, there\u2019s a fitness centre with a dedicated studio for group workouts\u2014like yoga and Pilates\u2014and lots of showers. And because it\u2019s Vancouver, there are 250 bike <span class=\"s3\">stalls, plus a one-megawatt, 21-plug electric-vehicle char<\/span>ging station in the Stack\u2019s expansive lower parking area.
