Kevin McCarthy\u2019s Speakership bid ignore his pleas to back the California Republican.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s just the latest sign that Trump\u2019s once-iron grip on his party is weakening, a reality that raises questions about his 2024 presidential bid while giving rivals more confidence they can defeat him in a primary.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Conservative Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) said on the House floor on Wednesday that Trump needed to tell McCarthy to withdraw from the contest, while Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said it was \u201csad\u201d that the former president supported McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, in an act that could be described as defiance or flattery, Gaetz voted for Trump to be Speaker during the seventh round of voting on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this is a sign of his diminished influence,\u201d said Brian Seitchik, an Arizona-based GOP strategist and Trump campaign alum. \u201cThere was a time when Trump would say \u2018jump\u2019 and everyone would say \u2018how high?\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, McCarthy lost his ninth bid for Speaker as the group of 20 rogue Republicans voted for another candidate and one Republican voted \u201cpresent.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump has taken to his <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> platform TruthSocial this week to call on the roughly 20 House Republicans opposed to McCarthy to rally around the GOP leader. He\u2019s also been busy providing some commentary on the closed-door negotiations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery good things are h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening behind the scenes for the Republican Party,\u201d\u00a0Trump wrote on Wednesday.\u00a0\u201cIntense but Smart negotiations between GREAT and PATRIOTIC people are ongoing. They all love our Country, and want something to go forward, ASAP. This \u2018event\u2019 will end up making the Republican Party STRONGER and more UNITED than ever before.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Republican strategists think the fight in the House could hurt their party along with Trump, giving something to seize upon to Democrats and President Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you beat high gas prices and still a sagging economy? You beat it by pointing to the other side and saying you may not like every outcome, you may not even like every policy, and frankly, you may not even like me, but look at those clowns,\u201d one Republican strategist told The Hill.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The strategist said it\u2019s not the Speaker fight itself that is a disaster for Republicans. It\u2019s what it points to for the future.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Any Speaker elected \u2014 McCarthy or someone else \u2014 is likely to face challenges uniting the fractious conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a political patient on a ventilator but it is a symptom that if I were a prescribing political doctor I would be really worried about right now,\u201d the strategist said of the fight on the House floor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some downplay the fact that the Republicans opposed to a Speaker McCarthy ignored Trump. They said it isn\u2019t about Trump, but McCarthy,<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it has anything to do with Trump. I think it has everything to do with either a personal issue with McCarthy or an ideological issue,\u201d Seitchik said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Still, conservatives say that Trump\u2019s calls for rogue House Republicans to rally around McCarthy are a sign that the former president is misreading the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublican [voters] have been so betrayed by our leadership that now they just want a scalp, I think, just to send a message that they\u2019re done. They\u2019re done messing around,\u201d said Terry Schilling, president of the conservative American Principles Project.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the same spirit and the same reason that Donald Trump was unstoppable in 2016 against a host of some of the best and most qualified Republican candidates for president that we\u2019ve ever had,\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump has had a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of recent stumbles.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates he backed faltered in the midterms, contributing to a disappointing outcome for the GOP that was blamed in part on Trump \u2014 even by Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>A dinner he held with two avowed antisemites caused a national stir, as did remarks by Trump about terminating the Constitution to overturn the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>The debacle over the Speakership comes as various 2024 polls show support for the former president appearing to wane as potential presidential hopeful and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) sees his stock rise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/12\/13\/trump-support-gop-2024-presidential-race-poll\/10882346002\/\">USA-Today-Suffolk University poll<\/a>\u00a0released last month found that 31 percent of voters said they wanted the former president to run, while 61 percent said they would prefer another GOP candidate who would continue Trump\u2019s policies. The same poll also found that 56 percent of Republicans wanted DeSantis to run while 33 percent said they wanted Trump to run.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>While Trump\u2019s waning influence may give a boost to DeSantis, it also demonstrates how difficult it will be for any candidate to unify the party from the top of the ticket, say some observers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly there\u2019s a leadership vacuum inside the Republican Party,\u201d said Republican strategist Alex Conant. \u201cThere\u2019s not a single national Republican who\u2019s demonstrated the ability to unite all the Republican factions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t expect the other presidential hopefuls to wade into the Speakership drama like Trump has.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s very little upside and a whole lot of downside to weighing in on the Speaker\u2019s race, but Donald Trump could not miss an opportunity to be at the center of the action,\u201d Seitchik said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
