Unlike primaries, candidates for special elections in New York are selected by party leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have heard from a few people that they have got a desire to talk about it. I have not started having any formal conversations yet,\u201d Jacobs said.   <\/p>\n<p>The Dem bench of potential aspirants is deep. Robert Zimmerman, who was bested by Santos in 2022, said he had received \u201ca great deal of encouragement\u201d from local and national Dems to give the race another go. <\/p>\n<p>People are also hitting up Tom Suozzi, who retired from the seat to run for governor, to see if he might consider getting back into the action. Let\u2019s pick a leader who has a proven record of getting votes on both sides of the aisle and, ahem, actually winning elections. @DanRosenthalNYC is that person,\u201d David Greenfield, CEO of the Met Council and former city councilman, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYCGreenfield\/status\/1608612518985097218\">gushed on Twitter.<\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>Republicans also see a growing chance of an upcoming special election \u2014 but are considerably less excited about it. It is widely assumed that whoever they field will spend most of the race responding to Santos fallout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople have <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roached us. People have made calls. Some have sent resumes, approximately 10 people. He said he had no interest in staging a run should a special be called.  State party leaders also tried to lure Andrew Giuliani into the race. The one-time gubernatorial aspirant said he was \u201cnot ruling it out\u201d but that he was \u201cprobably more no than yes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some are hoping Lee Zeldin, the GOP\u2019s gubernatorial candidate last year whose strong showing catapulted Republicans across the state will stand up. A person close to Zeldin, however, said the idea was \u201cnot something he is considering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councilwoman Vickie Paladino and Stefano Forte, a former GOP State Senate candidate have also been floated. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s come up.
