If chosen, they will be tasked with deciding Thugger\u2019s fate, along with 13 members of his YSL crew, an acronym which interchangeably stands for his Young Stoner Life Records imprint and the Young Slime Life gang he\u2019s been accused of co-founding.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit200\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The office of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis alleges that YSL is an affiliate of the Bloods gang and is responsible for murders, a number of armed robberies and assaults in Atlanta between January 2015 and May 2022. Young Thug and the other defendants were all arrested under an indictment in May on Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) charges.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the selection process, potential jurors were asked to fill out a questionnaire to help attorneys on both sides determine whether these Atlanta residents would be qualified to participate in the trial. Included in the survey are specific questions about YSL, including whether participants have heard of the label or the gang, whether they\u2019ve attended a YSL concert, or know anyone who wears \u201cSlime Life\u201d clothing.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For the last week, potential jurors have been filling out juror questionnaires. They answered more than 250 questions. Here are some of the ones I found interesting:<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wsbtv?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@wsbtv<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>#YoungThug#YSL#Trial <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UTDgviE1Fs\">pic.twitter.com\/UTDgviE1Fs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Michael Seiden (@SeidenWSBTV) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SeidenWSBTV\/status\/1611551447484882944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 7, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The questions include <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> questions about people\u2019s opinions on physical <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance, like \u201cDo you have an opinion about a person who has head and neck tattoos?\u201d or \u201cDo you have an opinion about a person who has dreadlocks or tattoos?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, jurors were asked if they were familiar with a number of rappers including Gunna, who accepted a plea deal in this case and is not expected to testify at Young Thug\u2019s trial; Rich Homie Quan, Lil Wayne and Birdman, who have all worked with the rapper and appear on the prosecution\u2019s witness list; and YFN Lucci, who is believed to have been the leader of a rival gang.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit300\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The questionnaire also asked the potential jury members how much they pay attention to a song\u2019s lyrics, as Young Thug\u2019s attorney\u2019s continue to fight to have YSL\u2019s music excluded from the evidence to be presented at trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe admission and use of these lyrics\/poetry\/artistry against [Young Thug] in his upcoming trial would be a Constitutional violation and an abuse of discretion, too prejudicial and unconstitutional,\u201d his legal team wrote in a motion last November. \u201cMoreover, using these lyrics\/poetry\/artistry\/speech against [Young Thug] is racist and discriminatory because the jury will be so poisoned and prejudiced by these lyrics\/poetry\/artistry\/speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the prosecution has defended their use of lyrics in the courtroom\u00a0as they believe Thug\u2019s words are \u201cpreserving, protecting and enhancing the reputation, power, and territory of the enterprise [YSL].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday (January 4), potential jurors watched a three-hour video of Judge Ural Glanville reading select lyrics from Thugger\u2019s 2016 single \u201cSlime Shit,\u201d which prosecutors have sought to include as evidence, calling music released by the YSL crew \u201covert acts in furtherance of the conspiracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit400\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Jury selection in Young Thug\u2019s trial is expected to last five to six weeks, while the trial itself could go on for up to a year.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"author\" itemprop=\"author\" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Person\"><meta itemprop=\"name\" content=\"Tai Saint-Louis\">by Tai Saint-Louis<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
