into potential money-laundering breaches at the crypto company, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/01\/07\/binance-subpoenas-crypto-trading\/\" class=\"icon none\">the Washington Post reported over the weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> The U.S. attorney\u2019s office for the Western District of Washington has sent subpoenas in the last few months to hedge funds demanding all communications with Binance, citing two sources familiar with the subpoenas.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Authorities have not brought charges against Binance, founder Changpeng \u201cCZ\u201d Zhao or other executives. Last month, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/us\/us-justice-dept-is-split-over-charging-binance-crypto-world-falters-sources-2022-12-12\/\" class=\"icon none\">Reuters reported<\/a> that prosecutors were weighing up whether to bring indictments against Binance or agree to a settlement.<\/p>\n<p>The federal probe comes at a critical moment for the crypto industry, which is facing intense reputational scrutiny in the wake of the FTX implosion sending cryptocurrency values slumping.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read: As a crypto developer says some $3.6 million in bitcoin has been stolen, Tim Draper doubles down on world\u2019s No. 1 digital asset hitting $250,000<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The criminal investigation began in 2018, and is looking into Binance\u2019s compliance with U.S. anti-money laundering laws, Reuters has reported. <\/p>\n<p>The crypto platform has long since frustrated financial authorities for allowing users to trade crypto coins without identification, allegedly making it a haven for money-laundering, according to John Ghose, a former Justice Department prosecutor quoted by the Post.<\/p>\n<p>He told the Post that Binance \u201cdid not have a reputation of being a responsible exchange\u201d.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Compliance_spree\"><\/span>Compliance spree<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Binance has made recent pledges step up on compliance. On Friday, the company announced it had joined the Association of Certified Sanctions Specialists (ACSS), an organization that joins together sanctions compliance professionals. <\/p>\n<p>In 2022, it also went on a hiring spree to grow its compliance team from 500 to 750 members, the company said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>It also t<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed up ex-U.S. senator Max Baucus to chair a global advisory board in an effort to improve relations with Washington.
