Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriation,\u201d she <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lizzo\/status\/1612074796774486017?s=20&amp;t=vHoYh892bskm89gAEVyAHQ\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cThere was real outrage from truly marginalized people and now it\u2019s become trendy, misused and misdirected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cI hope we can phase out of this &amp; focus our outrage on the real problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, Lizzo came under fire for using an \u201cableist\u201d term in her song \u201cGrrrls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disability advocates on social media slammed the singer for the\u00a0use of the word \u201csp-z\u201d\u00a0\u2014 a common American slang for the term \u201cspastic\u201d to mean \u201cgoing crazy\u201d or \u201cfreaking out,\u201d but is highly offensive in UK and aimed to belittle people with cerebral palsy.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/lizzo-64.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"lizzo tweet\" class=\"wp-image-25289755\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/lizzo-64.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/lizzo-64.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/lizzo-64.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Lizzo argued that cancel culture has \u201cbecome trendy\u201d and diminishes more serious issues.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Twitter\/Lizzo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>People demanded she either change the lyric or be canceled.<\/p>\n<p>Lizzo ended up conceded to the backlash and changed the lyrics in the song. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my song \u2018GRRRLS,&#8217;\u201d she wrote in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lizzo\/status\/1536480260732047361?s=20&amp;t=vxL7DqEmwLjgXQg5-MQ_5Q\">statement<\/a> posted to Twitter at the time. \u201cLet me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language.
